GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES Assists in coordinating the assignment of Registered Professional Nurses to Nassau BOCES schools and non-public schools; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES Under general supervision, the duties require the use of considerable independent judgment in assisting in coordinating the assignment of Registered Professional Nurses to Nassau BOCES schools and non-public schools.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  1. Assists in coordinating the assignment of Registered Professional Nurses to Nassau BOCES schools and non-public schools.
  2. Assists in supervising school nurses in their diverse settings.
  3. Assists in assigning nursing personnel and secures substitute help to maintain district-wide nursing coverage.
  4. Assists in coordinating response to medical emergencies.
  5. Assists in evaluating the work of Registered Professional Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Child Care Aides, and others.
  6. Participates in program development.
  7. Substitutes at schools in the absence of the assigned nurse.
  8. Assists in providing a program of specialized training and workshops for staff.
  9. Participates in decision-making and resolving problems as they arise at the various nursing sites.
  10. Participates in the selection of staff and makes recommendations for hiring.
  11. Assists in previewing, reviewing, evaluating, and recommending the purchase of materials, equipment, supplies, and consultant/performer services.
  12. Acts as liaison between the health office and school administration.
  13. Confers with parents and/or guardians of children.
  14. Supervises or assigns work to health office staff, as required.
