Job Summary/Basic Functions
The University of Mary Washington invites applications for a Scene Shop Supervisor to provide production support in the scene shop in the Department of Theatre and Dance. This position provides production support in the scene shop, electrics and sound areas in the Department of Theatre and Dance. The demands of the position will require regular evening and weekend work, supervision of employees, and the ability to handle on-call, after hours requests for assistance.
Required KSAs/Competencies/Qualifications
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Knowledge of theatrical production processes, including scenic construction, lighting, sound, and stage operations.
Knowledge of technical theatre systems, equipment, and industry best practices related to scene shops, lighting, sound, and rigging.
Knowledge of workplace safety practices and procedures applicable to theatrical production environments.
Skill in estimating project costs, budgeting, and procuring materials and supplies for theatrical productions.
Skill in coordinating the construction, installation, and implementation of scenic elements for theatrical productions.
Skill in carpentry, scenic construction, rigging, and the safe operation and maintenance of hand and power tools used in technical theatre.
Skill in troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing theatrical equipment and production systems.
Ability to supervise the daily operations of scene shops, electrics shops, and sound departments while ensuring safe, efficient, and effective work practices.
Ability to supervise, train, and mentor students with varying levels of technical theatre knowledge, experience, and comfort using production equipment and techniques.
Ability to prioritize multiple production projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and production teams to support theatrical productions.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain a safe working environment, and ensure compliance with established safety standards and procedures.

Bachelor"s degree from an accredited college/university in Theatre or related field.
Master"s degree from an accredited college/university in technical direction or equivalent professional experience.
