Job Description

Alabama State University, Division of Student Affairs, invites applications for the position of Therapist. The successful applicant will provides culturally responsive mental health counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, outreach programming, prevention services, and wellness initiatives that support student success, retention, persistence, and overall well-being. Assists students in addressing personal, emotional, behavioral, developmental, educational, and psychological concerns through evidence-based counseling interventions while supporting university-wide mental health initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides individual, couples, and group counseling services.
  • Conducts intake assessments, biopsychosocial evaluations, risk assessments, and treatment planning.
  • Provides crisis intervention, emergency mental health services, and consultation.
  • Maintains accurate clinical documentation.
  • Develops and evaluates evidence-based interventions.
  • Consults with faculty, staff, administrators, students, parents, and community providers.
  • Coordinates referrals and case management services.
  • Designs and delivers workshops, trainings, outreach programs, and prevention initiatives.
  • Participates in behavioral intervention teams, threat assessment teams, and university committees.
  • Collects and analyzes utilization, assessment, and outcome data.
  • Supports retention, persistence, and student success initiatives.
  • Maintains knowledge of counseling practices, student development, and regulations.
  • Provides consultation regarding crisis response and risk management.
  • Participates in professional development and maintains licensure.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or related behavioral health field. Must be LPC, LICSW, LMFT, Psychologist, ALC. Demonstrated experience may include higher education, healthcare, community mental health, internship, practicum, graduate assistantship, fellowship, residency, or comparable clinical settings.

OTHER SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Graduate internships, practical, graduate assistantships, fellowships, and supervised clinical training may be considered toward experience requirements. Must maintain licensure and comply with FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, Title IX, Clery Act requirements, and university policies. Occasional evening/weekend programming and crisis response participation may be required.
