Opportunity for Board-Certified Thoracic Surgeons in Long Island, New York

We are actively looking for Board-Certified Thoracic Surgeons to join our team in Long Island, New York. Our organization is a comprehensive health system dedicated to serving the communities of Long Island, NY. With a network that includes six hospitals, three long-term care facilities, a Home Care and Hospice agency, and a program for individuals with developmental disabilities, we employ over 17,000 staff members and operate with a budget nearing $3.5 billion. Our services reach more than three million residents across Suffolk, Nassau, and Eastern Queens Counties, supported by a network of over 3,300 physicians.

Position Overview

This senior-level position emphasizes clinical excellence, leadership, and the development of the thoracic surgery program. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the Department Chair to implement strategic initiatives and enhance thoracic surgical services throughout the health system.

Base Salary: $750K+

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver advanced thoracic surgical care, encompassing all facets of pulmonary, mediastinal, and foregut surgery.
  • Manage intricate surgical cases and engage in initiatives aimed at clinical excellence.
  • Work directly with the Department Chair on strategies for program development and growth.
  • Collaborate with physician leadership across the health system.
  • Lead or take part in quality improvement and innovation projects.
  • Mentor junior faculty members and contribute to a high-performing surgical team.
Leadership Structure
  • Reports directly to the Chair of Thoracic Surgery.
  • Collaborates closely with system physician leadership.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to junior surgeons and trainees.
Qualifications
  • Education: MD or DO from an accredited medical institution.
  • Training: Completion of an accredited Thoracic Surgery Fellowship.
  • Certification: Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery (ABMS-recognized board).
  • Licensure: Active (or eligible) New York State medical license and DEA.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of clinical thoracic surgery experience.
  • Skills: Proven leadership capabilities, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care.
