The State of Connecticut Technical High School System (CTECS) is hiring for a Health Technology Instructor (THS Instructor - Professional) to join our professional education team at Eli Whitney Technical High School.

To be considered for this position, Health Technology Instructors must:

• bring at least 8 years of experience in a related field (6 years with an associates degree or higher) and;
• a License or a temporary permit as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut or hold a Multistate or Compact Registered Nurse license.

Please note: Within the first year of employment, candidates are required to:

• Obtain a CT 109 Health Occupations - Vocational Technical Schools endorsement.
• Obtain BLS instructor certification through the American Heart Association.
• Obtain an American Red Cross CPR instructor certification.
• Obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with proper endorsements required to drive the student transport vehicle.
• Complete 3 CCSU courses: VTE 113, VTE 116, and Special Education.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

• SCHEDULE: first shift, full time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday.
• LOCATION: Eli Whitney Technical High School (Hamden, CT)
• SALARY: VS02 starting salary, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
• ACADEMIC CALENDAR: CTECS follows a ten-month academic calendar (188 days per year.)

YOUR ROLE

Join our team as a Health Technology Instructor and play a vital role in preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals. This dynamic position offers the opportunity to deliver a comprehensive Health Technology curriculum that combines classroom-based instruction with hands-on clinical skills training. The successful candidate will create engaging lessons, utilize educational technology and online resources, assess student competency, and provide meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for careers in the healthcare field.

Health Technology Instructors are expected to teach all aspects of the program, demonstrating both strong instructional abilities and practical healthcare expertise. In addition to classroom teaching, instructors will guide students through hands-on skill development, requiring the physical ability to perform and demonstrate a variety of healthcare tasks. The role also includes obtaining and maintaining a Connecticut Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements to safely transport students as needed.

Beyond instruction, the Health Technology Instructor serves as an active member of the educational community by participating in district and school-based professional development, collaborating with colleagues across departments, and contributing to committees and initiatives that support student success. Health Technology students learn health care safety, nutrition, characteristics of health care teams, National Health Care Standards, categories of health care facilities, legal/ethical/moral concerns in health care, and effective communication including medical terminology. The program provides broad-based exposure to a variety of health careers. In grade 11 students are eligible to become certified nursing assistants.

As a Health Technology Instructor you will be responsible for:

• Curriculum Delivery: Teach Health Technology theory.
• Clinical Supervision: Oversee student rotations at healthcare facilities.
• Classroom Management: Maintain a professional, safe, and disciplined environment.
• Student Assessment: Grade clinical competencies and academic health coursework.
• Skill Validation: Certify student proficiency in trade related skills.
• Industry Compliance: Align classroom instruction with industry standards.

As a condition of employment, the hired educator is required to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the proper endorsements to transport CTECS students.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System this class is accountable for educating students in academic and trade coursework.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• One (1) year of work experience in a long-term care or rehabilitation facility;
• Experience teaching, preparing lesson plans, differentiated learning and assessing student;
• College Career Pathway (CCP) or UCONN Early College Experience (ECE) instructors; and/or
• Have completed the following courses at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU): VTE 113, VTE 116 and Special Education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.
