TIG Welding Mentor

Position Summary

The TIG Welding Mentor provides hands-on coaching and skill development for entry-level welders transitioning from classroom training into a production or fabrication environment. The mentor works directly with students in welding booths, helping them refine TIG welding techniques, improve weld quality, develop efficiency, and build the confidence needed for real-world employment. This position focuses on practical application, craftsmanship, safety, and workplace expectations rather than formal classroom instruction, while also performing hands-on TIG welding work in support of fabrication and production activities.

Essential Responsibilities

Provide one-on-one and small-group coaching to develop TIG welders.

Demonstrate proper TIG welding techniques, including torch control, filler metal application, travel speed, and weld sequencing.

Guide students through real-world welding projects and production-style assignments.

Evaluate weld quality and provide immediate feedback on technique and performance.

Assist students in improving consistency, accuracy, and productivity in the welding booth.

Reinforce safe work practices and proper use of welding equipment and PPE.

Help students develop troubleshooting skills related to weld defects, fit-up issues, and equipment settings.

Model professional workplace behaviors, including punctuality, accountability, teamwork, and attention to detail.

Monitor student progress and identify areas requiring additional practice or coaching.

Maintain a safe, organized, and productive welding environment.

Perform hands-on TIG welding on production, fabrication, and customer projects while maintaining quality and productivity standards.

Serve as a working mentor by demonstrating professional welding practices, workflow efficiency, and craftsmanship through daily welding activities.

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of TIG welding experience in a fabrication/manufacturing related industry.

Demonstrated expertise welding stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel.

Strong ability to coach, mentor, and develop entry-level welders.

Ability to explain welding concepts and demonstrate techniques in a clear, patient manner.

Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Previous mentoring, lead welder, trainer, or supervisory experience preferred.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced TIG welder who enjoys helping new welders succeed. They understand the challenges of moving from the classroom to the workplace and can provide practical guidance, encouragement, and technical expertise to help students become skilled, confident, and employable welders. This position also requires hands-on Tig Welding, and the ideal candidate will lead by example through both mentorship and production-quality welding work.

Primary Goal

Help newly trained welders transform classroom knowledge into real-world TIG welding proficiency through hands-on booth training, coaching, repetition, and constructive feedback while contributing to fabrication and production activities through high-quality TIG welding work.
