Essential Job Functions
Meets with clients by calling clients, confirming dates/times, etc. in order to discuss their tiling and marbling needs and to visualize the job in order to see what needs to be done.
Measures the area that must be tiled or marbled by using a tape measure, writing down the specifications, quantities, shapes, angles, etc. in order to determine the right amount of materials for the job.
Gathers tiling equipment by reviewing the job scope in order to have the necessary equipment to start the job.
Cuts and shapes tiles or marble to size by determining the necessary shape, size, angle; laying out the dimensions; using the saws or grinders/bitters; etc. in order to complete the job.
Cleans and levels the surface area by using a sponge and a bucket of water; by laying the level on the surface/work area; checking the area elevation; etc. in order to get area ready for tile installation.
Applies tiling cement by reviewing the tile for size, texture, etc.; laying out the area for installation; beginning the tiling installation; etc. in order complete the work order.
Arranges tiles or marble shading by communicating with the client/supervisor regarding installation in order to distribute the various shades of tile evenly.
Applies tiling grout by using a sponge and a bucket of water; removing all excess thin set; applying grout on the face of the tile using grout float; etc. in order to complete the tiling process.
Cleans off excess grout by using the sponge and continuously wiping at an angle in order to remove the film on the face of the tile until the tile is clean.
Conducts post-installation inspections by standing up, taking steps backwards, etc. in order to find any imperfections/mistakes.
Maintains tools and equipment by cleaning tools and equipment; storing tools and equipment; etc. in order to keep tools and equipment in good working order.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY
OPTION I
Completion of a recognized apprentice training program in tile setting work of at least three years duration.*
OPTION II
Four years experience in tile setting work, one year of which must have been at the journey-level.
LICENSE
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS
Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
Journey-level experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker, not a trainee, and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision. To qualify under Option II, please ensure application/resumes contain detailed information specifically addressing journey-level experience.
SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
As part of this application process, applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The questionnaire contains a pre-investigative questionnaire which will be used as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait three (3) months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply.

EXAMINATION CONTENT
This examination will consist of a structured interview weighted 100% assessing:
APPLICANTS MUST RECEIVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE REGISTER.
TESTING ACCOMMODATION

Please note, you will be contacted at a later time by a Sheriff's Department representative that will guide you through the process. You will be provided with an initial deadline to submit documentation. VETERANS CREDIT
If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veterans credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email it to the exam analyst at sheriffexamsunit@lasd.org as soon as possible so, if you are eligible for veterans credit, we can include it before the list is available.
ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION
Applicants who passed the assessment(s) are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly. We will use this list to fill vacancies in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Administrative Services Division, Facilities Services Bureau.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.
SPECIAL INFORMATION
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS MUST COMPLETE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING FINGERPRINT SEARCH. Examples of disqualifying factors include: Any felony convictions; job related misdemeanor convictions; certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations (3 moving violations in one year; failure to appear; at fault accidents; suspended license; driving under the influence); poor credit history; poor employment history; substance abuse; anyone on probation.
