NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the U.S. Forest Service. These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the U.S. Forest Service through the Agriculture Conversation Experienced Service (ACES) Program.

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience OR AA Degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Engineering or related field of study

  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Timber Information Manager (TIM)
Duties:

The individual will provide expertise in timber sale contract administration, disputes, contract modifications, and inspections and provides support and training for other members of the sale administration team.

  • Serves as team member on district Log Accountability Audits. Responsible for logistics and contacting the individual districts   20%
  • Review timber sale packages before advertisement to ensure accuracy.   20%
  • Update Tongass Timber Theft Detection and Prevention Plan.   20%
  • Perform timber sale inspections with Sale Administrators to ensure purchasers are fulfilling contract requirements.   20%
  • Working to support the mentoring and onboarding of a replacement for the Sale Administration Program Manager position.   20%

Other:
  • Aviation and boat safety training
  • Depending on needs, training may be provided
  • Travel Requirements: The enrollee will be traveling by plane and boat to different locations for timber sale efforts.
  • Overnight travel: 2-3 days per month.
  • Air travel anticipated: 2-3 days per month.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Some travel may be to remote locations via float plane or boat. Intern will receive boat safety and aviation training. Daily Tailgate sessions will be performed when working in the woods.
  • Required Safety Gear: Appropriate PPE will be provided such as hard hat, safety goggles, safety vest, etc.
  • Safety Gear Use: If and when work is performed in the field, PPE will be provided as listed above.
