JOB TITLE: TIMS COORDINATOR

NATURE OF WORK

Under general supervision, employee maintains the currency and accuracy of the Transportation Information Management System (TIMS) database. Employee assists with performing clerical work within the transportation department; gathering bus route information; developing and entering bus route information into TIMS; responding to requests to optimize bus routes/runs; generating state and local transportation reports; preparing transportation maps as needed; auditing bus driver timesheets for accuracy and completeness; and providing student data for school planning and redistricting to school officials.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gathers information on all bus routes including stop locations, assigned students, headcounts at bus stops, bus stop times, and stop safety.
  • Assists with clerical work, including responding to incoming phone calls; serves as receptionist; maintains files, forms, and records; processes incoming mail; types memos and correspondence.
  • Performs periodic updates to TIMS student files with Powerschool data; adds new streets/roads to the street/road data and reviews geocode maps; maintains TIMS data in accordance with Department of Public Instruction policies.
  • Provides student maps, student reports, bus route maps, and district boundary information to bus drivers, principals, and transportation and central office staff as needed.
  • Responsible for completing and submitting TD TIMS annual report.
  • Reviews student transport data with bus drivers and school administrators.
  • Assists with the creation of routes and student assignments for transportation services.
  • Performs run optimization for bus routes to improve transportation efficiency.
  • Responsible for scheduling and billing for activity bus use.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, school staff, parents, students, and drivers.
  • Ability to interpret and follow transportation policies and procedures.
  • Software/word processing skills to troubleshoot, operate, and maintain computer.
  • Ability to compile and summarize information.
  • Thorough knowledge of TIMS routing system and computer programs.
  • General knowledge of the use of computers for record-keeping and report generation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate and organized records.
  • Mathematical skills to determine bus drivers time and to draw roads in Geocode.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma; associates degree preferred.
  • 2 years of clerical experience in a public or private organization with windows computer applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of county road network.
  • Knowledge of computers and networking.
  • Knowledge of state and local guidelines and policies regarding transportation.
  • Must be physically able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.
  • Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors. Must be able to talk and/or hear.
  • Requires the ability to add and subtract totals; to multiply and divide; and to determine percentages and decimals.
  • Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of colors.
  • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions and to explain procedures.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Employee must possess a Class B North Carolina Commercial Driver's License with School Bus and Passenger endorsements.
  • Certifications for GSTRT, GCODE, MARIS, and Powerschool.
