Job Description: Tire Engineer (Entry-Level BSME)

The Tire Engineer is responsible for the engineering construction, processing, cost, and quality levels of tires released to production by the Research and Development group. This entry-level role applies independent judgment and discretion in daily decision making and plays a key role in continuous improvement of tire performance and manufacturing quality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cured tire analysis to evaluate tire construction, performance, and quality, and document findings clearly and accurately.
  • Supervise test tire procurement by coordinating closely with production and Research and Development teams to ensure timely availability of test samples.
  • Follow up on defect control activities and corrective actions to support continuous improvement in tire performance and manufacturing quality.
  • Issue clear and detailed quality instructions and ensure effective communication of these instructions to production teams.
  • Audit all phases of factory processing to verify compliance with tire specifications, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Conduct training programs for employees related to tire construction, quality, and processing, promoting best practices and standardization.
  • Maintain tire specifications, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely updates to support production and R&D needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address quality or process issues and contribute to cost-effective engineering solutions.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME preferred), or equivalent engineering education.
  • Foundational knowledge of mechanical design and engineering principles related to manufacturing or product development.
  • Solid internship experience or one to two years of relevant engineering experience preferred.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion in daily technical decision making.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to interact effectively with production, R&D, and other team members.
  • Strong written communication skills for preparing reports, quality instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel for data analysis, reporting, and documentation.
  • Ability to conduct audits and inspections and interpret technical specifications and standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • AS400 experience is a plus, particularly for data management and production-related information systems.
  • Interest in tire engineering, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to deliver training sessions and explain technical concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Attention to detail and a structured approach to maintaining and updating technical specifications.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

This is a Permanent position based out of Freeport, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $68000.00/yr.
