Tire Service Technician

Position Summary

The Tire Service Technician is responsible for performing tire and wheel services safely, accurately, and efficiently. This position supports the dealership’s Service Department by inspecting, repairing, replacing, mounting, balancing, and rotating tires while maintaining a high standard of workmanship and customer safety.

The Tire Service Technician is expected to follow dealership procedures, manufacturer recommendations, OSHA requirements, and established safety practices while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Inspect tires for tread wear, uneven wear, damage, punctures, and other safety concerns.
Remove and install tires and wheels using appropriate tools and equipment.
Mount and dismount tires safely.
Balance wheels and tires using computerized or manual balancing equipment.
Perform tire rotations according to manufacturer and dealership recommendations.
Repair eligible tires in accordance with industry and manufacturer guidelines.
Inflate tires to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure.
Inspect wheels, wheel studs, lug nuts, valves, and related components for visible damage or concerns.
Inspect and service Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) components as appropriate.
Properly torque wheel lug nuts according to manufacturer specifications.
Identify and communicate additional tire, wheel, or vehicle concerns to the Service Advisor or Shop Foreman.
Complete repair orders and documentation accurately.
Operate tire changers, wheel balancers, lifts, jacks, torque tools, and other shop equipment safely.
Maintain tire inventory and properly identify and store removed tires when required.
Properly handle, store, and dispose of used tires.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Follow all dealership safety policies and procedures.
Follow applicable OSHA, environmental, and workplace safety requirements.
Protect customer vehicles from damage during service.
Maintain professional conduct when interacting with customers, Service Advisors, technicians, and dealership personnel.
Participate in required training and maintain current knowledge of tire and wheel service procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
 
Qualifications

Required

Ability to safely perform tire and wheel services.
Ability to operate basic automotive service equipment.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to work in a fast-paced automotive service environment.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
 

Preferred

Previous tire service or automotive service experience.
Dealership service experience.
Experience with TPMS systems.
Experience operating tire mounting and balancing equipment.
Automotive service training or certification.
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Basic knowledge of automotive tires and wheels.
Understanding of tire pressure, tread depth, tire wear, and basic tire safety.
Ability to recognize potentially unsafe tire or wheel conditions.
Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Ability to use hand and power tools.
Ability to accurately follow manufacturer specifications.
Ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
Strong commitment to workplace safety.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Ability to work cooperatively with Service Advisors, technicians, managers, and other dealership personnel.
 

Physical Requirements

The position requires regular physical activity, including:

Standing and walking for extended periods.
Bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
Repeated use of hands, wrists, and arms.
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tires, wheels, tools, and equipment.
Working in confined or awkward positions when necessary.
Ability to safely lift and move tires and wheels consistent with the dealership’s established physical requirements.
Working in varying temperatures and conditions common to an automotive service environment.
