Title: Human Resources Generalist (HR Manager Track) 

Location: Hybrid Eligible (Primarily Office-Based) – San Diego County, California FSLA: Exempt (Full Time)

Salary Range: $70,500 – $90,000 annually DOE

Position Summary

SK Pools is seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist who is ready to take the next step toward an HR Manager role. This position is ideal for an HR professional with 3–5 years of progressive HR experience supporting both exempt and non-exempt employees in California. The successful candidate will possess strong knowledge of California employment laws, payroll administration, employee relations, and workforce compliance while demonstrating the leadership potential necessary to grow into an HR management position.

This role serves as a trusted resource to employees and leadership, supporting day-to-day HR operations, payroll administration, compliance, recruiting, employee development, and office management functions. The position is primarily office-based to maintain a strong employee presence and support operational needs, with limited hybrid flexibility available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Human Resources Administration

· Serve as the primary HR contact for employees and supervisors regarding policies, procedures, benefits, and employment-related matters.

· Support all phases of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee development, and offboarding.

· Maintain personnel records and HRIS data in accordance with federal, state, and company requirements.

· Assist with policy development, handbook updates, and implementation of HR initiatives.

· Conduct workplace investigations and support employee relations matters while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

· Partner with managers to address performance concerns, corrective actions, and employee development opportunities.

· Support employee engagement, retention, recognition, and culture-building initiatives.

California Employment Law & Compliance

· Ensure compliance with California labor laws and applicable federal employment regulations.

· Monitor wage and hour compliance, meal and rest break requirements, leave administration, and recordkeeping obligations.

· Assist with workers' compensation administration, unemployment claims, and leave-of-absence processes.

· Support annual compliance activities, audits, reporting requirements, and required workplace postings.

Payroll Administration

· Process and/or oversee payroll preparation for exempt and non-exempt employees.

· Review and audit timesheets for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with wage and hour regulations.

· Monitor overtime, double-time, meal-period premiums, shift differentials, bonuses, and incentive compensation calculations.

· Coordinate payroll changes including new hires, terminations, compensation adjustments, and benefit deductions.

· Partner with Finance and payroll vendors to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.

· Assist in resolving payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries.

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition

· Coordinate recruitment activities including job postings, candidate screening, interview scheduling, and onboarding.

· Partner with hiring managers to develop job descriptions and recruitment strategies.

· Support workforce planning and succession development initiatives.

Office Management & Administrative Support

· Oversee day-to-day office operations and administrative functions.

· Coordinate office vendors, supplies, facilities needs, and workplace services.

· Support company meetings, employee events, and internal communications.

· Assist leadership with administrative projects and operational initiatives as needed.

Leadership Development (HR Manager Track)

· Participate in strategic HR initiatives and organizational planning discussions.

· Develop supervisory and leadership skills through project ownership and cross-functional collaboration.

· Provide guidance and coaching to managers on HR-related matters.

· Assist in developing HR metrics, reporting, and workforce analytics.

· Prepare for future advancement into an HR Manager role through increasing responsibility and leadership opportunities.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

· Minimum of 3–5 years of Human Resources Generalist experience.

· Experience supporting both exempt and non-exempt workforces in California.

· Demonstrated payroll administration experience, including:

o Overtime calculations

o Timekeeping systems

o Payroll audits

o Wage and hour compliance

o Payroll reporting

· Working knowledge of:

o California Labor Code requirements

o FLSA regulations

o Leave administration

o Employee relations

o Performance management

o Recruitment and onboarding

· Experience maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive employee information.
