Program Details:
Teachers are needed for the The Marshall Mentor Program to work with at-risk students to develop positive interpersonal relationships. Each staff member will work with 3-5 identified students regularly to build supportive and ongoing relationships that will foster a sense of belonging and community at John Marshall School. Mentor groups will be created either to work in groups that meet weekly or in lunch time social skills group activities. Mentors and mentees will work on social emotional learning (SEL) skills that allow for the mentees to become more comfortable making decisions related to compromise, consensus, and a culture of kindness in social situations. Sessions will occur during lunch periods. Mentors will attend training sessions and participate in meetings with their mentor colleagues to discuss SEL strategies focused on the goals of the Mentor Program.
Students will be recommended by the guidance counselor and administration, with teacher input. Parents will be notified and sign off on an agreement, allowing their child/ren to work with the assigned teacher. This program is funded by a Title I-SIA.
