JOB TITLE: Tommie Arts Live Student Producer

LOCATION: St. Paul CampusPAY RATE: 19.50

Job Summary

The Tommie Arts Live Student Producer will work with faculty leads in the Department of Emerging Media to develop and produce Tommie Arts Live, a College of Arts and Sciences and grant-supported live arts program featuring creative work from across the University of St. Thomas.

The program will combine live multicamera studio production with field and prerecorded material and is intended as a high-profile, public-facing project. Two student producers are expected to be hired. Responsibilities will be divided according to project needs and the strengths and experience of the students selected.

Duties

Student Producers may:

Identify, research, develop, and help select potential stories, creative work, and participants for the program. Communicate and coordinate with participating students, faculty, artists, and other contributors. Help determine appropriate treatments for stories and components, including live studio, field, prerecorded, supplied-media, or hybrid approaches. Organize production needs, schedules, deadlines, materials, and documentation and help keep assigned work moving toward completion. Coordinate story and participant needs with field and studio production requirements. Participate in field production, rehearsals, live studio production, and related production work as needed. Help shape episode structure, transitions, and other creative elements of the program. Work collaboratively with faculty leads, other student producers, production crew, and participating artists while taking responsibility for assigned stories, components, or production functions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Hours will vary according to project needs over the 2026-27 academic year, with periods of increased activity during episode development and production. This is a project-based position, and total hours are dependent on available grant funding and production needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current University of St. Thomas student.
  • Successful completion of DIMA 240, or equivalent video-production coursework or experience as determined by the hiring supervisor.
  • Demonstrated reliability, organization, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned work, and follow projects through to completion.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, participants, and production crew.
  • Working familiarity with video production processes and the ability to translate creative ideas into practical production needs.
  • Interest in developing stories about creative work and helping determine how those stories can best be presented through live, field-produced, prerecorded, or hybrid forms.
  • Availability to participate in scheduled preproduction, field production, rehearsal, and live-production activities during the 2026-27 academic year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional coursework or experience in video, audio, journalism, storytelling, live production, or related media production.
  • Experience with multicamera studio production and/or field production.
  • Experience developing stories, interviewing or working with participants, organizing productions, or leading collaborative projects.
  • Demonstrated editorial or creative judgment and willingness to experiment with forms beyond conventional interview or news-style production.
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines, coordinating people or materials, or maintaining production documentation.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
