HiFyve is partnering with an automotive manufacturer to hire Tool and Die Makers for its manufacturing facility in Columbus, Nebraska. This is a hands-on position responsible for manufacturing, repairing, modifying, and maintaining progressive dies and production tooling.

Position Details

Location: Columbus, NE

Shift:

2nd Shift

• Monday through Friday
• 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Pay:

• $20–$41/hour depending on experience

Job Summary

Responsible for manufacturing, repairing, modifying, and maintaining progressive dies, molds, fixtures, and production tooling used in automotive manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, repair, modify, and maintain progressive dies, stamping dies, fixtures, molds, and production tooling.
• Perform die maintenance using tool room equipment and hand tools.
• Fabricate and repair dies used in production.
• Lay out existing die sections and manufacture replacements as needed.
• Perform in-press tooling repairs.
• Machine parts according to blueprint specifications.
• Perform center drilling, reaming, lapping, tapping, countersinking, and counterboring.
• Perform machining, fitting, grinding, assembly, and tooling adjustments.
• Troubleshoot tooling issues and make modifications to improve production and part quality.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
• Use precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and optical comparators.
• Calculate machine speeds and feeds and perform machine offsets.
• Support tooling setups, tryouts, and production launches.
• Operate grinders, mills, lathes, drill presses, and EDM equipment.
• Use a hi-lo and crane to transport dies for maintenance or installation.
• Document completed work and maintain required department records.
• Follow all applicable safety, quality, and environmental requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Formal training leading to Journeyman Tool and Die Maker status, an accredited Tool and Die certificate, or equivalent on-the-job experience.
• At least 5 years of related Tool and Die experience.
• Experience repairing and maintaining stamping dies and production tooling.
• Strong mechanical ability and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
• Knowledge of:

• Milling and grinding
• Tool fitting and assembly
• Tool steel composition
• Tool sharpening
• Hardness testing
• Machine repair and setup
• Metal fabrication
• Precision measurement and inspection
• Ability to operate mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, optical comparators, and EDM machines.
• Ability to calculate speeds and feeds and perform machine offsets.
• Hi-lo and crane certification required.
• Journeyman status or an accredited certificate required.
• Automotive manufacturing experience preferred.
• Ability to work effectively with employees across production, maintenance, quality, and engineering.
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds in a manufacturing environment.
