Salary Range: $62,000 - $97,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs and builds dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Operates a variety of machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM machines.
  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, and 3D models to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Performs precision measuring using instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and optical comparators.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs existing tooling to maintain production efficiency.
  • Selects appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool longevity and performance.
  • Collaborates with engineers and production staff to optimize tool design and manufacturing processes.
Recommended Qualifications
  • Apprenticeship completion or equivalent experience (4+ years) in tool and die making.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment processes, and material properties.
  • Demonstrated expertise in operating manual and CNC machine tools (mills, lathes, grinders, EDMs).
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, CMMs) for quality control.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and attention to detail for troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mastercam)
  • Proficiency in operating and programming CNC machinery
  • Familiarity with metrology tools and precision measurement techniques
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Advanced welding or fabrication skills relevant to tool and die repair
