About the Role

This role supports the design, development, and implementation of specialized tools and fixtures used in aerospace assembly and fabrication operations. The Tool Design Engineer collaborates closely with manufacturing, engineering, and vendor teams to deliver compliant, production-ready tooling solutions. The position emphasizes hands-on tool design, CAD modeling, and shop floor support within a regulated manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop special tools and fixtures to support assembly and fabrication operations
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using CATIA V5
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and engineering
  • Provide shop floor support to resolve tooling, manufacturing, and technical issues
  • Support tooling vendors during fabrication and implementation phases
  • Ensure tooling configuration control and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements
  • Perform root cause analysis on tooling issues and implement corrective actions
  • Act as a technical checker for tool designs developed by internal teams or vendors
  • Review, research, and validate tooling disposition requests from vendors
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within tooling and manufacturing processes


Qualifications
  • STEM degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 10 years of overall tool design experience for composite part families
  • Experience designing layup, trim, bond, and assembly fixtures
  • At least 5 years of recent experience using CATIA V5
  • At least 5 years of recent tool design and fabrication support experience
  • Strong experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experience interpreting metrology data


Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Experience with CATIA V4
  • Hands-on mechanical or jig-building experience
  • Exposure to vendor tooling support and supplier coordination
  • Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience supporting composite manufacturing processes
