Job Title: Tool & Die Maker 1st Shift
Location: Archdale, NC 27263
Pay rate: $28.00 - $29.00/hr (with a pay increase upon permanent hire)
Work schedule: Full-Time | 1st Shift, 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday.
Overtime Requirements: Overtime is required on Fridays.
The Tool and Die Maker is responsible for designing, planning, fabricating, assembling, and maintaining specialized tooling. This role works closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to troubleshoot die-related issues, optimize tool performance, and perform high-precision machining. Operating within a progressive environment, the role ensures that all stamped parts meet precise dimensional tolerances and strict corporate quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Tooling Fabrication & Repair: Fabricate, modify, and repair precision stamp tooling, including punches, dies, and complex tool assemblies.
Design & CAD Modeling: Design specialized fixtures and tools, translate those concepts into CAD, CAM, or 3D drawings, and determine the correct metallurgy and metal types required for production.
Troubleshooting & Optimization: Partner with Engineering and Production teams to troubleshoot technical die issues, optimize designs, and improve overall design for manufacturability.
Component Assembly: Perform sub-assembly and precise bend fitting of precision tools to produce highly accurate mechanical components.
Testing & Engineering Changes: Participate in new tooling try-outs and execute engineering changes to guarantee operational safety and process repeatability.
Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine and preventative maintenance on active tooling assets to increase operational lifespan and minimize press downtime.
Logistics & Sourcing Recommendations: Evaluate worn tooling components to recommend internal repairs or coordinate external vendor outsourcing when necessary.
Must Have Skills / Requirements
Tool & Die Experience: Proven background and hands-on experience working directly with tool and die applications.
Stamping & Press Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of both progressive and transfer stamping tools, paired with basic metal stamping press and material feeder knowledge.
Machining & Setup Skills: Strong manual or CNC machining skills, including the independent setup of equipment and the ability to machine raw components down to tight specified dimensions.
CAD/CAM Software: Direct operational experience utilizing CAD, CAM, or 3D modeling design software.
Physical Capabilities: Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. unassisted.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
Certifications: Possess an active Journeyman card or a formal Apprenticeship certificate.
Technical Blueprint Reading: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex engineering blueprints and geometric schematic documents.
Technical Literacy: Solid mathematical comprehension, strong mechanical aptitude, and robust analytical skills.
Training: Technical or vocational school training in CNC equipment operation is highly preferred.
Education & Experience
Education: High school diploma or equivalent certification is required.
