ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Tool Designer will use design and drafting expertise to create component part drawings, assemblies and work instructions, supporting existing and new products. Works closely with tool and die makers in the design and development of dies supporting cold heading and hot forge departments. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Completes mechanical layouts, routers and schematics of a complex nature
Design mechanical components for tooling
Complete mechanical layouts, routers and schematics to ASME standards
Create parametric solid models, 2D drawings, component tolerance stack-ups and component packaging in at 3D solid model environment
Continually monitor lead times for parts procurement to meet production schedule
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
5-10 years of parametric modeling experience in SolidWorks.
Advanced understanding and proficiency of 2D and 3D modeling software designing parts and assemblies.
Experience working with configurations and design tables.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Language: ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to verbally communicate effectively.
Mathematical: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: ability to apply common send understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
Extensive knowledge of ASME modeling and drafting standards, including Y14.5
Understanding of GD&T dimensioning applications, definitions and implications
Ability to read & interpret blue prints.
Ability to read & interpret router instructions & specifications.
Experience designing components for efficient manufacturing and assembly
Intermediate to Advanced use of MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and QAD.
Summary
As a Tool and Die Maker on the 2nd shift, you will be responsible for the precision fabrication and assembly of tools and dies used in manufacturing processes. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, your role will leverage core skills in machining, mechanical knowledge, and precision measuring instruments to ensure high-quality output. Your proficiency in SolidWorks and GD&T will enhance your ability to interpret schematics and adhere to ASME codes and standards. With a focus on teamwork and efficiency, you will contribute significantly to our manufacturing operations and help maintain our commitment to excellence.
