Tool Room Attendant

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Position Summary

Diversified Marine Inc. is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Tool Room Attendant to support operations within our shipyard environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring craft employees have the tools and equipment necessary to safely and efficiently complete marine construction, repair, and fabrication projects.

The Tool Room Attendant will be responsible for issuing and receiving tools, maintaining inventory records, inspecting equipment for damage, performing minor repairs, tracking consumables, and coordinating replacement and repair needs. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, mechanical aptitude, and experience working around industrial or construction equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Check tools, equipment, and consumables in and out to shipyard personnel.
• Maintain accurate records of tool assignments and inventory levels.
• Inspect returned tools and equipment for damage, excessive wear, or missing components.
• Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs on tools when feasible.
• Coordinate repair or replacement of damaged tools and equipment.
• Create and maintain replacement lists for tools, batteries, accessories, and consumable components.
• Organize and stock the tool room to ensure efficient access and accountability.
• Conduct routine inventory counts and audits.
• Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages to management.
• Issue PPE and job-specific equipment as required.
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within the tool room and storage areas.
• Support multiple crafts including welders, pipefitters, shipfitters, electricians, mechanics, laborers, and production staff.
• Assist with receiving, labeling, and tracking new tools and equipment purchases.
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a shipyard, industrial facility, manufacturing environment, construction company, warehouse, or tool room preferred.
• Working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and industrial equipment.
• Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance.
• Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and use basic computer systems.
• Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on your feet throughout the shift.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting marine, shipbuilding, fabrication, or industrial trades.
• Inventory control and tool tracking experience.
• Forklift certification or previous forklift experience.
• Familiarity with welding equipment, fabrication tools, and construction equipment.
• Understanding of tool calibration, preventative maintenance, and repair processes.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull tools and equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the workday.
• Ability to work safely around active shipyard operations and heavy equipment.
