Job Summary
The Tooling Manager supports all departments of ATD & NCS and is responsible for the overall management of the Design, Toolroom, CNC, and Wire EDM departments to ensure quality, on time delivery, and cost control of the progressive and hand loaded tooling programs.  

Qualifications
To achieve success a Tooling Manager should possess the following minimum requirements, knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Ability to interpret blueprints, CAD data, specifications, and maintain tooling standards.
Strong technical writing skills for the preparation of quote packages, specifications, and reports.
Attention to detail and thoroughness.
Understand and maintain IATF 16949, ISO9001 requirements.
Ability to work under pressure and maintain self composure and flexibility.
Innovation and problem solving skills.
Exceptional project management, scheduling, and multi-tasking skills.
Meet customer expectations.
Proficient in E2 Shop Manufacturing software.
Effectively work well with others to accomplish intended output.
Ability to manage and provide performance standards, feedback and coaching to employees and suppliers.
Training and onboarding.

Education/Experience
B.A. Degree from a four-year institution or equivalent work experience required or a 2 year full-time machine-shop technical school degree.
Minimum 5 years experience as a Tooling Manager or Tool Designer; or minimum 10 years experience as a Tool& Die Maker or equivalent experience in a machine shop.
Proficient in CAD systems/software for product and tool designs. Preferably AutoCad, Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, and Visi experience.
Excellent knowledge of progressive and hand loaded tool design.
Must have knowledge of machine shop equipment operation.

Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for the overall management of Design, Toolroom, Die Maintenance, CNC, and Wire EDM departments to ensure delivery of intended outputs.
Ensure all tooling is built to meet customer requirements.
Monitor and ensure all jobs meet or exceed the financial targets established for each tooling program.
Evaluate low cost alternatives to reduce tooling costs.
Prepare and issue detailed RFQ’s to suppliers for new projects and ensure timely submission.
Ensure IATF 16949 and ISO-9001 compliance.
Support and facilitate design review meetings.
Oversee tooling trials, troubleshooting, problem solving, and transitioning tools from try-out to production.
Manage the post launch lessons learned specifically for progressive and hand loaded tooling. Evaluate each item for disposition to improve our tooling standards, design for manufacturing guidelines and/or engineering design guidelines.
Use tools and gages to inspect parts as needed.
Manage Apprentice Program.
Effectively communicate to employees and suppliers in all lines of communication including verbal and email.
Ensure compliance to all safety, health and environmental procedures, policies and practices such as; utilizing personal protective equipment and proper attire in keeping with safety standards.
Manage and assess the performance of tooling suppliers, taking appropriate action to ensure successful outcomes and maintain an adequate network of qualified tooling suppliers.
Evaluate performance for employees in all ATD departments in compliance with the company evaluation process.
Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures as outlined in company handbooks and manuals.
Assist in tool design if necessary.
Assist in preparing and reviewing quotes as needed.
Lead by example.
Other responsibilities as required.

Physical Demands
Ability to talk, hear, see, and use hands/fingers to handle or feel.
Ability to frequently walk or stand for long periods of time for up to 10 hours a day.
Ability to regularly sit for extended periods of time for up to 10 hours a day.
Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, crawl, or kneel.
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.   If greater than 50 lbs, will require assistance or the use of lifting equipment. 

Work Environment
Production environment in a manufacturing facility with occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.  While performing the job functions of this position, the employee occasionally works near punch presses, machine shop equipment, forklifts, welders and automated assembly fixtures.  Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required when in the plant.
