SALARY & BENEFITS: Salary placement based on education and verified contracted teaching experience accepted. Salary Range: $53,283.00 to $83,813.00. Employer-paid retirement, health and life insurance, sick leave benefits and personal leave.

Must possess a Nevada license endorsed for the specific subject(s) and to perform other educational functions at the level and in the field for which he/she is to be employed, issued in accordance with law and in full force at the time the services are rendered. General Job Description:

Under the supervision of the School Site Principal in coordination with the Elementary Education Director, the Instructional Coach is responsible for designing, conducting, promoting, and supporting teacher professional growth initiatives. The Instructional Coach will also serve as an expert in high level instructional practices and as a curricular resource within the school across all content areas. They will support teachers and administrators in designing and delivering instruction that is consistently rigorous and strengthens all students' ability to engage in content as critical thinkers and problem solvers. In order to be successful in this role, the Instructional Coach will assist classroom teachers in building content and instructional knowledge at the site and district level through continuous professional learning, collaboration, and growth focused on high quality instruction that is aligned with the NVACS (Nevada Academic Content Standards). Finally, the Instructional Coach is expected to coordinate with the ELA Learning Strategist and other site and district level leadership to update and maintain the curriculum, assessment, and mastery data systems, materials adoptions, and other essential district related professional support. This also includes other duties as assigned.

Experience &/or Training Required:

  • A minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience required.
  • District, and campus policies and procedures.
  • Training in Cognitive Coaching or other coaching protocol.
  • Working knowledge of high quality staff development projects.
  • Working knowledge and ability to apply Nevada State Standards for Professional Development.
  • Working knowledge of current public education programs and trends.
  • Ability to conduct research and gather data about program effectiveness.
  • Good reading, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills.
  • Ability to utilize database management systems and software systems as part of work in completion of assignments (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Mastery Connect, NWEA-MAP, etc).

Ability to:

The Instructional Coach will guide and support teachers in the form of professional development, coaching, collaboration, and consultation. They must be able to effectively communicate with classroom teachers in a positive manner as they engage in academic conversations regarding lessons and academic content. The Instructional Coach will provide modeling and training to support teachers as they practice stepping into the role of skilled facilitators of learning. The Instructional Coach will create quarterly reports outlining how their time is spent throughout the quarter and highlight successful practices and effective strategies used by teachers. He or she must be able to develop information loops associated with each project and assist in development and delivery of data verifying success of the staff development initiative. In addition, the Instructional Coach must be able to effectively work with administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals to conduct teacher instructional reflection surveys in which teachers reflect on their instructional practices. The instructional coach will use this information to target and support teacher's instructional needs. They will follow the coaching cycle described in the K-5 Coaching Plan as part of this process and assess classroom instruction based on the Rigor, Relevance and Engagement Rubric.

Licenses or Certificates Required:

Possession of a valid Nevada Teaching License, TESL endorsement preferred, a valid drivers' license issued by the state of residence, and an original Social Security Card. The Job Functions:

The Instructional Coach will work closely with the school administration, Elementary Education Director and the school district professional development administrator to produce the most effective training opportunities for certified and classified staff. Job responsibilities will include creation of professional development opportunities related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment, all of which promote the development of high quality teaching and learning opportunities.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:

Coaching and Adult Staff Development:

  • Demonstrate the ability to gather and use evident of learning to provide coaching and feedback to classroom teachers; provide support to individual teachers.
  • Ability to utilize the four cognitive coaching stances (coaching, collaboration, consultation, and evaluation) to support adult changes in practice.
  • Effectively applying Nevada State Standards for Professional Learning as a guide to develop, implement, and evaluate staff development initiatives.
  • Ability to follow district directives in implementing this initiative including working with administrators, department chairs, teachers, and paraprofessionals.

Content Knowledge:

  • Understand and follow guidelines and protocols outlined in the K-5 Coaching Plan
  • Knowledge of the Nevada Academic Content Standards
  • Knowledge of the Common Core Shifts in instruction and high level teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge of MAP assessment. Must be able to navigate website, download data, and provide instruction to others on gathering data and using data to provide instructional interventions.
  • Knowledge and ability to coach around Infinite Campus, Mastery Connect, and other essential student databases as they apply to the classroom and the school.
  • Knowledge of state exams and data associated with those exams.
  • Expertise in Standards Based Unit Design and Assessment. Must be able to support unit design and development. This includes establishing learning targets, SMART goals, and assessment development.
  • Understand and facilitate PLC work. Must be able to observe, gather data, and coach individuals and teacher teams on PLC processes. Must be familiar with the PLC protocols.
  • Knowledge of the co-teaching model to provide services to ESL and Special Education students. The Carson City School District utilizes this model to provide services and the Implementation Specialists must understand these practices and be able to support teacher teams as they do this collaborative classroom work.
  • A deep understanding of best practices designed to meet the needs of special populations including IEP and LEP subgroups.
  • Knowledge of high quality instructional practices. The candidate must be able to observe classrooms, gather data, and effectively coach around the attributes of effective instruction.
  • The candidate must be highly skilled in the area of differentiated instruction and the Instructional Consultation (IC) model.
  • Knowledge of content area literacy and strategies that can be used by teachers to allow students of various reading levels to interact with the text.

Systemic School Improvement Initiatives:

  • Must have experience connecting staff development initiatives to school improvement plans. Must be able to share systemic data with staff members and provide support to teacher teams in enhancing the initiative based on data.
  • Must be able to contact appropriate district personnel and acquire resources necessary to support program initiative.
  • Must be able to gather and report data following scientific protocols established by district office researchers.
  • Must have the ability to connect staff development initiatives to student performance in the classroom.

Professional Integrity:

  • The Instructional Coaches at each site must be able to support the change process and follow district directives when implementing the School Improvement Plan and/or the Strategic Plan.
  • The students of the school must come first. The stance of the Instructional Coach must be founded in student performance and supporting the change in adult behaviors which ultimately lead to students improving their academic performance in all areas.

General Information:

  • The Instructional Coach is expected to work additional days.
  • The Instructional Coach will be selected by district office personnel and the site principal. The evaluations will be completed by the site principal.
  • Finally, the Instructional Coach must demonstrate the ability to improvise and make adjustments in order to meet the staff development needs of site staff members.
