Touch/Force/Motion Hardware - Sensing System ArchitectThe Sensing Architecture team is a multi‑disciplinary team that develops state‑of‑the‑art technologies and sensor modules across Apple's product portfolio, including iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, and more. We architect sensing systems that allow valuable user interactions with Apple products while enabling system and display roadmaps.DescriptionWe are looking for a resourceful engineer and architect to develop next‑generation sensing HW systems on Apple's innovative devices. You will be responsible for architecting the end‑to‑end sensing system — including sensor, ASIC requirements, back‑end algorithms and calibration needs. You will be delivering an architecture package backed by extensive modeling and simulations that allows the HW teams to execute and build robust, power‑ and area‑optimized sensing systems at scale. As an architect, you will help the HW teams accelerate progress by adding clarity to ambiguous design spaces, independently converging technical issues, and aligning efforts across teams.ResponsibilitiesModeling — Building comprehensive sensor models that capture the entire signal chain: physical, electrical, and algorithmic, to streamline algorithm prototyping and guarantee performance in high‑volume productionSystem engineering — Defining key figures of merit, setting specifications, and authoring requirements specifications for the entire sensor‑system‑tree to guarantee the customer experienceDesign Analysis — First‑principles based analysis to better understand design tradeoffs in our sensor designs and efficiently intuit optimal solutionsCoEx Management — Co‑architect and assess design tradeoffs with partner teams like display, wireless charging, and product design, to ensure best‑possible performance for the entire productInnovation — Identifying novel sensing architectures and similar opportunities to significantly impact performanceTechnical Communication — Presentation of architectures and results to cross‑functional engineering partnersMinimum QualificationsMinimum requirement of a bachelors degreeDegree in one of these fields: Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering.Preferred QualificationsM.S. / Ph.D. with relevant project or coursework experience designing sensing systemsDeep understanding of electrical engineering, transducer physics, and system engineeringExperience in modeling complex multi‑physics and electrical systemsSignal processing techniques, both analog and digitalBasics of linear algebra, probability, and statisticsProficiency in MATLAB or equivalent packagesExperience in leveraging AIML technologies to create scripts and frameworks for enhanced efficiencySoftware architecture best practices for complicated tool flowsExcellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skillsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $120,307 and $210,100 annualized, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
