Job Title: Touch-Up Painter
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Type: Contract To Hire
Compensation: $23 - $27 hourly

Position Summary
The Touch-Up Painter is responsible for performing detailed paint repair and finish work on rail cars to ensure cosmetic quality, corrosion protection, and compliance with customer and industry standards. This role focuses on correcting paint defects, damage, or wear after primary coating, assembly, or testing.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform touch-up painting on rail car bodies, components, and assemblies
  • Repair scratches, chips, runs, sags, overspray, and coating defects
  • Prepare surfaces through sanding, masking, cleaning, and feather-edging
  • Mix paints and coatings per specifications (epoxy, urethane, primer, topcoat)
  • Apply coatings using spray guns, brushes, and rollers as required
  • Match colors and finishes to existing coatings and customer specifications
  • Inspect completed work for quality, thickness, adhesion, and appearance
  • Follow rail customer standards, paint specifications, and work instructions
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area; properly handle and dispose of materials
  • Comply with all safety, environmental, and PPE requirements
  • Support final inspections and rework as needed prior to delivery

Required Qualifications
  • 1+ year of painting experience (commercial, residential, shop, or related environment)
  • Basic understanding of surface preparation (sanding, masking, cleaning)
  • Ability to follow written work instructions and paint specifications
  • Willingness to learn rail-specific coatings, processes, and quality standards
  • Attention to detail and pride in workmanship
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and painting equipment
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and work around large equipment
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing or shop environment and wear required PPE
