The Trace Analytical Chemistry Team (CTAC) in the Nuclear and Radiochemistry Group of the Chemistry Division is seeking an outstanding candidate with extensive experience developing and implementing systems to ensure compliance to Quality Assurance and Quality Control requirements. We are DOELAP and ISO17025 Accredited for our In Vitro Bioassay Project/Program and we are actively seeking assistance from this Trace Analytical Chemistry Quality Assurance Officer Project Leader 2 position to incorporate additional CTAC projects into our Quality Assurance and Quality Control program and Accreditations.

The Project Leader manages and ensures the timely completion of specific projects; establishes requirements for the project; defines and/or executes project deliverables, and schedules; oversees the project team in the planning, tracking, and execution of the project from initiation to completion. The customer may be an external body, such as a federal agency, or may be an internal organization within the Laboratory.

The Project Leader participates in the activities of Quality Assurance and provides input to quality assurance operations. Fully functioning professional. Provides resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Failure to obtain results or erroneous judgments/recommendations would normally have serious results and may require substantial expenditure of resources to correct and/or achieve project goals. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Determines approach to solutions, plans schedule and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives.

Assures safety and security compliance, maintains required safety and security training, and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.

  • Is responsible for successful completion of assigned project(s) within the approved scope, and schedule.
  • Negotiates with program and line managers to ensure that resources are available to accomplish the work.
  • Integrates moderately complex project work with other Laboratory priorities and commitments, including safety, security, environmental compliance, quality, contractor assurance, and business imperatives.
  • Identifies potential project risks, developing risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommending risk acceptance/avoidance for all aspects of the project(s).
  • Under limited direction, serves as the primary spokesperson to report project status and issues to the program manager and to LANL senior managers and workers.
  • Understands and adheres to all Laboratory and regulatory guidance and governance specific to the project work.
  • Fosters a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.


Job Duties related to Quality Assurance

  • Participates in the development of procedures related to quality, data gathering and analysis, cause and corrective action determination, and process improvement activities.
  • Serves as an Assessment Team member.
  • Participates in the preparation and review of quality management programs and procedures in accordance with approved Laboratory policies, as assigned.
  • Understands and adheres to Laboratory and industrial regulatory guidance and governance specific to quality assurance.
  • Ensures quality assurance results, materials, processes and final products meet quality specific specifications and are completed according to established requirements.


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of and experience in project management of work, including developing project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; managing to scope, and schedule, budget; and documenting baseline reports and change control actions.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements related to the assigned project.
  • Experience in developing and nurturing effective internal customer relationships.
  • Experienced ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.
  • Experienced ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
  • Working knowledge and experience of quality assurance regulatory/contractual/technical documents
  • Demonstrated experience in quality assurance program development and/or conducting formal assessments.


Education

Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
