Minimum Qualifications
Eighth grade. Applicants must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver s License (CDL) learner s permit at the time of application. One year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a variety of heavy construction equipment is required. The MDTA classification of Track Equipment Operator performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to the provisions of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Drug and Alcohol Regulations. Proof of education and work experience to meet minimum qualifications must be presented and will be verified. This position is a (13c) TWU 291 classification preference will be given to applicants in TWU Local 291 by Seniority.
Tests Required
TRAINING PROCESS: A limited number of trainee positions will be available. Applicants in the DTPW TWU bargaining unit positions will be selected by classification seniority based upon the number of available trainee positions. Those selected will enter the classification of Track Equipment Operator in trainee status. Classroom and on-the-job training will last approximately fourteen (14) weeks. At the completion of training, a written examination will be given wherein students must demonstrate knowledge of the subject matter.
Seniority points will be added to the score of Miami-Dade County employees qualifying on the competitive examination at the rate of 1/2 (.50) point per year of continuous, full-time service in the County to a maximum of ten years of service or five points.
Trainees who pass the test will have completed the training successfully. DTPW TWU bargaining unit employees (trainees) who successfully complete the training program will be placed, by classification seniority order, with probationary status into available vacancies. DTPW TWU bargaining unit employees (trainees) completing the training program but not placed, will return to their former classification. They will be placed on a waiting list and will receive preference by classification seniority order for future available Track Equipment Operator positions. The eligible list will remain valid as set forth in the Personnel Rules for the Classified Service. In accordance with labor protective agreements, Miami-Dade Transportation and Public Works employees in certain represented positions will be given preference for these positions.

The doors to the test facility will close promptly at the time indicated. No one will be admitted for registration after the doors of the test facility have been closed. Promptness is required.
Photo identification, such as a Driver license or County ID, is required to be admitted to the written examination

This position operates a variety of heavy and light aerial high-rail and track related equipment, i.e., Pettibone speed swing and its attachments, cranes, utility vehicles, etc. installs and removes various attachments to assigned vehicles. The operation of this equipment is performed under traffic conditions at extreme heights reaching over 200 feet.
