Career Opportunity
A great developmental opportunity to learn and grow as part of our Track & Structures team. We are seeking a Track Welder Trainee. This position reports out of Davisville Yard or Greenwood Yard, however working location will vary as dictated by work assignments.
You will be classified as a Track Welder Trainee for a period of up to 3 years during which time the applicable training will be given. Once you successfully complete the classroom and the on-the-job training will be classified as a Track Welder. You must remain in the classification for a period of 18 months with the ability to bid to higher classifications during this period.
What You Will Do
As a trainee, you'll step into an exciting hands-on role where you'll gain experience with a wide range of electric and acetylene welding, cutting, and grinding techniques. Your work will take place across TTC properties - from the shop and yard to the subway system itself - giving you exposure to diverse environments and challenges.
You'll learn specialized skills such as track bonding, CAD welding, and thermite welding operations, with opportunities to lead and support crews during critical trackwork projects. All training and tasks are guided by experienced supervisory staff, ensuring you build confidence and mastery every step of the way.
You will be part of a part of the process from start to finish which could include:
This is more than just technical training - it's about becoming part of the team that keeps Toronto's transit system running safely and smoothly. You'll develop valuable trade skills, contribute to essential infrastructure, and open doors to a rewarding career in welding and fabrication.
You will demonstrate behaviours that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. You will help to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC's commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC's policies.
