Duties

Help

  • Operates warehouse-type tractors to transport materials, furniture, and equipment within the installation, towing vehicles like wheeled trailers and dump carts using simple coupling devices.
  • Responsible for the proper loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring that towed vehicles are correctly balanced and securely connected to the tractor before transport.
  • Performs limited, routine operator maintenance on tractors and primarily operates on improved surfaces such as warehouse floors, parking areas, and roads.
  • Works under the direction of a supervisor, receiving oral and written instructions for tasks, with completed work reviewed for compliance with standard operating procedures.

  • Must possess and maintain a current valid drivers license.
  • Must maintain the physical requirements of the position.
  • Must be willing to accept intermittent, on-call employment.
  • Must physically be able to stoop, bend, reach, and move arms and legs to operate tractor controls.
  • Must physically be able to lift and carry parts of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Management reserves the right to reassign employees to other facilities.
  • Work schedule will be irregular. The incumbent will be required to work, nights, weekends, holidays, and/or unique events.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

  • directly related demonstrated experience in operating warehouse-type tractors and associated equipment that includes a working knowledge of tractor controls for starting, stopping and maneuvering the tractor and towed vehicles in a congested warehouse, AND
  • directly related demonstrated experience performing minor maintenance on equipment (e.g. tractors), AND
  • knowledge of the location of grease fittings and fluid reservoirs so you are able to grease the vehicles and replenish oil, AND
  • possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a Government Motor Vehicle Operators permit.

Allowances and Differentials

  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours a day or more than 40 hours a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. This is NOT a regularly scheduled Flexible position as it has no guaranteed hours. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours fall after 3:00 PM.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will NOT be paid.

The Army, as one of the three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) reporting to the Department of Defense, is composed of two distinct and equally important components: the active component and the reserve components. The reserve components are the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.

Regardless of component, the Army conducts both operational and institutional missions. The operational Army consists of numbered armies, corps, divisions, brigades, and battalions that conduct full spectrum operations around the world. The institutional Army supports the operational Army. Institutional organizations provide the infrastructure necessary to raise, train, equip, deploy, and ensure the readiness of all Army forces. The training base provides military skills and professional education to every Soldier—as well as members of sister services and allied forces. Once those forces are deployed, the institutional Army provides the logistics needed to support them.
