    Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

    We are seeking an experienced US Trade Compliance Lawyer to join our team. Because this position requires access to export-controlled information, the successful candidate must be eligible to access such information in compliance with applicable U.S. export control laws. The Company does not sponsor export authorization for this position. Any job offer made will be contingent upon the applicant's capacity to serve in compliance with U.S. export controls. This role will report directly to the Global Commercial Counsel & General Counsel France and will be a key part of the Legal Department supporting METTLER TOLEDO's global trade compliance efforts.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Partner with global trade compliance teams and cross-functional business leaders to support business goals
    • Advise on export licenses, regulatory filings, and government agency communications
    • Provide guidance on U.S. and international trade laws, including export, import, and sanctions regulations
    • Identify and resolve compliance issues and support risk mitigation efforts
    • Counsel leadership and business teams on trade compliance strategy and business operations
    • Monitor regulatory changes and advise stakeholders on key impacts Lead, coach, and mentor the Trade Compliance team while promoting a strong compliance culture
    • Support additional legal matters, including contracts and corporate projects
    • Travel occasionally for training, stakeholder meetings, and process improvement

    What You Need to Succeed

    • Juris Doctor (JD) and active U.S. law license
    • 7+ years of experience in export controls, trade compliance, and/or federal contracting, preferably in a law firm or in-house legal role
    • Strong legal writing, analytical, and communication skills
    • Solid knowledge of U.S. trade compliance and sanctions laws, including ITAR, EAR, customs, BATFE, and OFAC
    • Government experience is a plus
    • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently and collaboratively
    • High standards of integrity, professionalism, and compliance
    • Must be able to work in full compliance with ITAR and EAR requirements due to access to export-controlled technology and data
