Our client, a Defence, Aerospace, Cyber and Digital Technology company, is looking for a Trade Compliance Specialist for their Orlando, FL location.
Responsibilities:
This position supports the trade compliance teams in executing international trade operations. The key responsibility of this role is to support and maintain export/import shipment documentation, assisting in product classification and country of origin evaluation. Support in the implementation of efficient and effective processes for trade compliance transactions in alignment with U.S. Government laws, rules, regulations, and Thales internal policies. Responsibilities also include communication with customs Brokers / Freight Forwarders as well as participation in cross-functional work teams.
Maintain accurate HTS code classification and country of origin determination for all imported/exported products.
Assist in applying proper U.S. Customs Valuation methods.
Review and maintain import /export documentation (commercial invoice, packing lists, certificates or origin)
Track international shipments for customs delay and regulatory holds
Support the implementation of Customs programs such as Duty Drawback, Temporary Import Bonds, etc.
Assist in the coordination with customs brokers, freight forwarders, for providing pre-clearance instructions and shipping instructions
Support ERP integration of trade compliance data (e.g., SAP material master).
Assist with internal audits and documentation which include pre and post CBP entry reviews.
Provide reporting on trade compliance metrics and duty exposure.
This work has direct and significant impact to bottom line. When a shipment is coming in from overseas, this person is scrutinizing documents that go to the broker. The worker will it transmit correctly to customs (this affects duties and taxes). This is where being analytical and having attention to detail comes in to play. This person's proficiency and productivity directly affects the team. If incorrect, this may cause corrections which means other departments are pulled in. Day to day they get broad variety of request in the inbox. They will collaborate & communicate with the team so everyone knows what is going on. They cannot be afraid to ask for help. And this is why they need to be self-motivated. If you wait to be told what work to do, you will not be successful. Be curious and ask questions, research.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Business, related field. Or equivalent experience (5+ years)
3+ years in trade compliance, customs, or international logistics.
Basic knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and Foreign Trade Regulations
Basic knowledge of HTS classification, valuation methods, country of origin determination, and Customs programs such as Duty Drawback, Temporary Import Bonds, Foreign Trade Zones, etc.
Basic understanding of US Trade Regulations
Experience using ERP systems such as SAP.
Experience with Trade Automation / SW solutions.
Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
Experience with duty drawbacks, FTZs, or CTPAT.
Ability to motivate and initiate change.
The primary work focus is supporting Irvine Client IFE, with the expectation they will also provide supplemental support to Orlando Client AGS as needed.
Temperature controlled warehouse office environment
Must have domestic / international experience in logistics, customs, or brokerage – as well as understand documentation and how it affects the process and the org as a whole. (Do they understand a bill of lading, customs shipping domestic and international documentation and invoices?)
If they mention Logistics, 7501, ACE (documentation experience) or brokerage or customs they will have the right experience.
Must be analytical, and detail oriented.
Must be computer savvy and comfortable and accurate in data entry.
ERP experience is required; SAP experience is preferred. Candidate should be prepared to explain and demonstrate their experience with systems and ability to learn systems.
Must be flexible, adaptable, comfortable with challenges, self-motivated and the type that looks for answers, looks for work and ways to assist. Cannot be afraid to ask questions.
