The Building Inspector will work with all unincorporated areas of Wake County, the Wake County Public School System, and for the Towns of Knightdale, Rolesville, Wendell and Zebulon.

As a General Trade Inspector
- Starting pay based on experience and certifications ranging from $27.20/hr. to $42.63/hr.
- Two years' experience in the trades industry.
- Note: If you hold a 4-year degree in an architectural, engineering or construction-related field you can qualify for a probationary level II certificate.
As a Senior Trade Inspector
- Starting pay based on experience and certifications ranging from $30.34/hr. to $51.58/hr.
- Must hold a Standard Level III certificate
- Five years of experience in the construction industry

What does a typical day look like?
- You will spend most of your time in the field with limited supervision
- Assist customers by reviewing construction plans to verify compliance with the North Carolina Technical Codes and Wake County ordinances
- Answer questions related to building codes, and Wake County procedures, policies, and development ordinances
- Troubleshoot site development issues and collaborate in pre-submittal meetings
- Regular communication with architects, engineers, and designers to eliminate possible code violations
- Work directly with homeowners to help them understand the various requirements
- Inspectors are based out of one of three Regional Centers located throughout the County.
