Come thrive with us! We are looking to hire a Trade Inspector in one of the most dynamic and fastest growing areas in the country! The Building Inspector will work with all unincorporated areas of Wake County, the Wake County Public School System, and for the Towns of Knightdale, Rolesville, Wendell and Zebulon.

As a General Trade Inspector

  • Starting pay based on experience and certifications ranging from $27.20/hr. to $42.63/hr.
  • Two years' experience in the trades industry.
  • Note: If you hold a 4-year degree in an architectural, engineering or construction-related field you can qualify for a probationary level II certificate.

As a Senior Trade Inspector

  • Starting pay based on experience and certifications ranging from $30.34/hr. to $51.58/hr.
  • Must hold a Standard Level III certificate
  • Five years of experience in the construction industry

What does a typical day look like?

  • You will spend most of your time in the field with limited supervision
  • Assist customers by reviewing construction plans to verify compliance with the North Carolina Technical Codes and Wake County ordinances
  • Answer questions related to building codes, and Wake County procedures, policies, and development ordinances
  • Troubleshoot site development issues and collaborate in pre-submittal meetings
  • Regular communication with architects, engineers, and designers to eliminate possible code violations
  • Work directly with homeowners to help them understand the various requirements
  • Inspectors are based out of one of three Regional Centers located throughout the County.
