Team Overview

The Equity Trading Team at Edward Jones delivers value to clients through the management and execution of equity orders, including stocks and ETFs. Our team is committed to achieving best execution by seeking liquidity, optimizing price improvement opportunities, and minimizing market impact across a variety of market environments.

Working closely with branch teams and internal business partners, we serve as a trusted resource in developing personalized trading strategies tailored to clients' unique needs and objectives. The team also plays a critical role in managing regulatory risk by ensuring adherence to industry regulations, firm policies, and best execution obligations.

Beyond daily trading responsibilities, the Equity Trading Team supports firm and divisional business objectives through innovation, data-driven decision-making, process improvement, and the advancement of trading technology and analytics capabilities.

What You'll Do

As a Trader I on the Equity Trading Team, you will develop and apply capital markets expertise while managing equity order flow in a fast-paced, agency trading environment. This role requires strong analytical and risk management skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to make sound order management decisions with increasing independence.

You will collaborate with branch teams, business partners, and market participants to deliver high-quality execution outcomes while balancing client service, operational excellence, and regulatory obligations. Your decisions will directly impact client outcomes and carry significant financial, operational, and reputational responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the firm's retail equity order flow, including stocks and ETFs, across Brokerage, Advisory, Trust, and Managed Account platforms.
  • Execute and monitor orders while seeking best execution through thoughtful application of trading strategies, liquidity sourcing techniques, and market structure knowledge.
  • Identify and access liquidity across a broad range of securities, trading venues, and market conditions to support both single-security and portfolio-level transactions.
  • Apply risk management principles and execution discipline to trading decisions while adhering to all regulatory and firm requirements.
  • Utilize internal and external trading systems, analytics tools, and market data platforms to support execution quality and workflow management.
  • Analyze trading, market, and operational data to generate insights and improve decision-making through reporting, automation, and analytical tools.
  • Deliver exceptional service to branch teams by providing timely responses, market insights, and trading-related guidance.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance scalability, efficiency, and accuracy through process improvement and workflow automation.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with internal business partners, broker-dealers, liquidity providers, and other market participants.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that support the evolution of the firm's equity trading capabilities, technology, and operating model.

What Experience You Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Data Analytics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Minimum 18 months of experience within financial services.
  • FINRA SIE, Series 7, and Series 63 or 66, required: additional Series 57 license is needed within 3 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risk, evaluate alternatives, and make informed decisions.
  • Strong quantitative aptitude and high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.

What Could Set You Apart

  • Experience within equity trading, capital markets, or investment management environments.

  • Knowledge of U.S. equity market structure, execution venues, order types, and best execution practices.

  • Prior client service experience within a financial services organization.

  • Advanced professional designations such as CFA, CFP, CPA, MBA, or progress toward completion.

  • Experience leveraging data and technology to drive business outcomes.

  • Proficiency with analytical and reporting tools such as: Databricks, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, VBA, Python, and/or Microsoft Excel

  • Experience with workflow automation, business intelligence, or AI tools.

  • Curiosity and passion for financial markets, market microstructure, and trading technology.
