The Public Utilities Maintenance & Operations Division is seeking motivated, dependable candidates to join our Facilities Section as a Tradeshelper. This role offers meaningful work that helps maintain essential city infrastructure while allowing you to develop valuable maintenance and trade skills.
What You'll Do
As a Tradeshelper, you'll play an important role in maintaining over 280 Sewer Pump Stations throughout the City of Chesapeake. You'll work both outdoors and indoors to help keep city-owned properties safe, functional, and visually appealing for the community.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires one month of vocational training or a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Special certifications may be required based on department and assignment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Experience towing small landscaping/maintenance trailers
Forklift experience
Landscaping experience
Experience in small construction projects/repairs
