Major/Essential Functions

Cabinetry, Casework & Finish Carpentry

  • Builds, repairs, modifies, and installs cabinetry, casework, vanities, shelving, countertops, doors, trim, and other finish carpentry components.
  • Performs detailed finish work requiring precision, craftsmanship, and attention to appearance, fit, function, and durability.
  • Works with hardwoods, plywood, laminates, sheet goods, hardware, fasteners, and related materials to complete custom fabrication, repair, and installation projects.

 

Building Trades & Interior Construction

  • Performs skilled building trades work including drywall repair, framing, flooring repair, brickwork, door and frame repair, metal frame installation, and related construction tasks.
  • Assists with light welding, fabrication, and repair work as needed to support maintenance and construction needs within University Student Housing facilities.
  • Completes repairs and improvements in occupied residential environments while minimizing disruption to students, staff, and daily operations.

 

Measurement, Materials & Craftsmanship

  • Assesses job requirements and determines materials, tools, measurements, and methods needed to complete assigned work.
  • Measures, calculates, cuts, fits, assembles, and installs materials accurately with minimal waste.
  • Ensures completed work meets established standards for quality, safety, durability, alignment, finish, and overall craftsmanship.

 

Work Execution, Documentation & Safety

  • Completes assigned work orders, projects, and repair tasks on time and to established standards.
  • Maintains accurate records of materials, labor, and work performed for each project or job assignment.
  • Performs all work safely and in accordance with university standards, departmental procedures, building codes, and applicable safety requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cabinetmaking, finish carpentry, millwork, casework, or related skilled trades work.
  • Experience performing repairs or improvements in residential, commercial, university, or institutional facilities.
  • Experience with cabinetry installation, door and frame repair, flooring repair, drywall repair, trim work, or custom fabrication.
  • Experience safely operating woodworking tools, saws, drills, sanders, routers, welding equipment, and related trade equipment.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
  • Basic understanding of building codes and safety practices (OSHA)
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete work with attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn

Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyperson.
