Nature of Work

The Tradesworker II maintains the licensure/certification required by county or state to perform work in one of the following areas: electrical, HVAC, or plumbing. The Tradesworker II performs skilled work within his/her licensed/certified discipline, as well as performs a wide range of general and semi-skilled activities, in support of preventative maintenance, general maintenance and repairs on City structures, grounds/beaches, systems and equipment. In completing skilled work, the Tradesworker II may be assisted by and may direct the Tradesworker I.

Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties

  • Construction I Maintenance. Assists and performs semiskilled construction and maintenance tasks in connection with the installation, maintenance, and repair of City structures, equipment, systems, grounds, and beach areas.
  • Performs electrical, carpentry, air-conditioning, plumbing or locksmith duties not requiring a license.
  • Inspections. Performs routine, repetitive inspections, , including electrical, mechanical, plumbing and other equipment fixtures to determine defects and needed repairs, necessary for the efficient and effective operation of City structures, equipment and systems
  • FF&E. Assists and performs semiskilled tasks in connection with the construction, installation, maintenance and relocation of furniture, fixtures and equipment.
  • Performs minor carpentry, masonry and plumbing repairs.
  • May perform due diligence in connection with: receiving, storage and distribution of materials, verification against purchase orders and work orders to ensure internal controls and safekeeping of City expenditures and resources.
  • Maintains assigned areas in clean and orderly conditions. Maintains assigned vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition and safeguarding City assets.
  • Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
  • Inspect properties and communicate with management regarding proper grounds keeping and general cleanup and maintenance.
  • Performs general grounds keeping on a daily basis; inspects assigned facilities and surrounding areas, ensures disposal areas are kept clean and in a safe condition.
  • Maintains accurate records of work orders and preventative maintenance schedules. Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
  • May perform weekly safety checks throughout the facility to ensure a safe and clean environment for the patrons of the facility and to eliminate all hazards.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • May be called to respond to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Two (2) years experience as a semi-skilled worker in one or more of the basic building maintenance trades and/or two years experience in a warehouse distribution operation.
  • Two (2) year of related employment in the facility maintenance.
  • A valid certification or valid journeyman rank in one or more of the construction or facilities trades including technician in the field, plumbing (and related fields, i.e. backflow, water control), general mechanical (HVAC, refrigeration), locksmithing, or electrical (technician or apprentice) is required at time of application and must be maintained valid throughout employment period.

Physical Requirements:

  • Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, and kneeling.
  • Some crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, pushing, and pulling.
