The department of Parking Management at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Traffic Enforcement Officer.
About the Opportunity
To provide the most efficient, orderly, and structured parking on the University campus. This is achieved using excellent customer service, while using enforcement only as a tool to this end. Provides traffic control assistance at various events on campus, which provides for safe, orderly, and efficient pedestrian and traffic flow. Shift will rotate every two months or based on operational needs.

What You'll Do
Enforces parking regulations in an assigned area through dissemination of information and issuing citations. Citations are issued utilizing hand-held computers. Assists Campus Police Officers as requested in the completion of enforcement activities such as towing vehicles with outstanding citations. Research, evaluate, and respond to supervisors regarding written and verbal complaints, concerns, questions, and unique situations from staff, faculty, students, and the general public regarding policies and procedures of the Parking Management unit. The position must provide excellent customer service and display empathy with our customers, even under the most trying of emotional conditions. Provides information to visitors, staff, faculty, and students concerning parking rules and regulations and safety and security practices. Must be able to work unsupervised and make decisions on demand. Provides assistance to motorists and citizens in distress by summoning help for inoperable vehicles, operates power pack jump starter to start disabled vehicles and assists in unlocking vehicles to retrieve keys locked in vehicles. Performs duties associated with all surface lots, garages, and the short-term parking lots throughout campus. These duties involve knowledge of both electrical and mechanical equipment, and the ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic coin and bill dispenser. Performs duties associated with fund collections at parking areas on campus, which involves handling large sums of cash. Must account for their assigned funds and perform other fund handing activities.
Completes required maintenance in parking areas, including operating self-propelled pressurized line painting machine, hand painting, washing down parking structures, sweeps and cleans as necessary, makes minor repairs as needed and reports security violations and safety hazards to supervisor for additional corrective action. Erect parking and traffic signage according to State and Federal regulations. Performs duties associated with snow removal in their assigned areas, which may include using shovels, spreading salt, or operating a plow truck. May require use of machinery or hand tools. Inspects and maintains assigned area of the garage complex daily for safety hazards, including trash and broken glass. Collect, process, reconcile, and record all funds collected for decals/permits, citations, reserved spaces, and parking validations. Maintain accurate balance and accounts for all funds handled in accordance with WVU fund handling and WV state policies. Serve as the frontline contact and first line of response to review customer related issues for the parking department (both physically and via the telephone/email), and accurately respond to a wide range of questions pertaining to parking availability, account balances, and parking locations. Provide excellent customer service and display empathy with our customers, even under the most trying of emotional conditions. Assist with issues relating to the gate system via computer system and physically operating or changing the gate operations. Performs parking / traffic control, and event activities as assigned at various overtime details, including but not limited to football games, basketball games, commencement, and other University events. Other duties may be assigned during slow periods.
