NOTE: THIS POSTING REPRESENTS A MULTI-LEVEL POSTING. IF THIS POSITION IS NOT FILLED BY A QUALIFIED APPLICANT AT THE ENGINEER SENIOR LEVEL, THE POSITION WILL BE FILLED AT THE GRADUATE 2 ENGINEER LEVEL.

Job Duties:

This position will provide traffic engineering expertise and supervision for the delivery of the construction program, manage the signing and tort claim areas, and to supervise coordinate, direct, schedule, and perform other traffic engineering duties within the district as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer Senior:

To qualify for Engineer Senior, applicants must meet all the following:

  • Licensure as a professional Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

The successful candidate must also demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of Traffic Engineering fundamentals (signing, pavement markings, and traffic control).
  • Knowledge of the Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MnMUTCD).
  • Knowledge of plan development and letting process.
  • Valid Class D Driver's License

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer 2 Graduate:

To qualify, Engineer 2 Graduate applicants must meet all the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or its equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC.
  • A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Two years post-graduation civil engineering work.

OR

  • A Master's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or it's equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC AND
  • A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • One (1) year of post-graduate civil engineering work.

OR

  • Received a passing score on the Minnesota Principals & Practices of Civil Engineering (PE) Exam.

AND

  • Knowledge of Traffic Engineering fundamentals (signing, pavement markings, and traffic control).
  • Knowledge of the Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MnMUTCD).
  • Knowledge of plan development and letting process.
  • Valid Class D Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of various work units and engineering disciplines within MnDOT and how they relate to MnDOT activities.
  • Knowledge of Transportation Management Plans (TMP) processes.
  • Knowledge of MnDOT's requester pay signing programs and signing asset management system
  • Knowledge of MnDOT policies, procedures and state and federal rules and regulations.
