As the manager of traffic technology and engineering, this position will oversee and implement active traffic management, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and related projects. This position plays a critical role in managing the safe and efficient flow of over a million vehicles and pedestrians on Chicago streets every day.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Manages traffic signal engineers and consultants; reviews and approves signal timings, ITS designs, and ITS implementation projects.
  • Reviews signal operations, coordinates with maintenance crews, other CDOT divisions, City departments, and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitates remote operation of traffic signals and intelligent transportation system field devices.
  • Monitors real-time data received from the field and third-party sources and oversees the systems hosting transportation data and CDOT's Traffic Management Center.
  • Identifies areas of concern for traffic safety and traffic flow and coordinates implementation of countermeasures.

Additional duties may be required for this position.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, plus five (5) years of work experience in the planning, design, and construction management of engineering projects, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, OR

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or higher in Engineering, plus four (4) years of work experience in the planning, design, and construction management of engineering projects, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position

Depending upon department assignment, field of engineering may vary.

Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) is required. Candidates with a Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) in other states may apply, but at the time of employment, positions must have obtained Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) in the State of Illinois.

Some positions may require a valid State of Illinois driver's license.
