Directly supervises employees in the Traffic. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
1. Manage personnel in Traffic Department. Monitor performance, behavior, coach, counsel, or discipline as needed. Conduct performance appraisals
2. Negotiate freight rates, discount programs and other programs to control and reduce freight costs and maximize cost and maximize customer satisfaction. Develop and maintain a transportation plan to minimize cost and exceed service levels. Establish and maintain agreements with carriers.
3. Maintain and update routing guide for inbound and outbound movement of freight. Establish preferred freight lanes.
4. Create and analyze all monthly freight reporting for the division
5. Able to travel 1-2 times per month to visit with customers to develop solid relationships and partnerships focusing on distribution and logistics efficiencies and solutions
6. Establish and maintain relationship with and manage all contact with freight consultant on outsourced freight bill.
7. Lead continuous traffic operation process improvement and the training of the Traffic Department Team.
8. Work with Claims Department and carriers to reduce freight claims and improve the customer experience.
9. Assist in establishing transportation budget for future periods by integrating volumes, mixes, shipping patters and expected inflationary impact.
10. Develop and manage departmental budget and maintaining appropriate headcount.
11. Monitor cost and efficiencies related to domestic and international shipments. Examples: fuel prices, drop and hook vs live load opportunities and ordering patterns.

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university plus five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior supervisor experience preferred.
Good skills in MS Office, such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
Three to five years of experience with freight routing and rating systems, inventory and manufacturing management software.
Prior experience with a warehouse management or other logistics management system is also preferred.
Proficiency in SAP is preferred as daily use of SAP may be required in this position.
