Help keep your community moving! Join us as a Traffic Signal Technician and play a vital role in installing and repairing traffic systems that ensure safety and efficiency on our roads. From high-tech signals to hands-on fieldwork, every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a difference.

• Install and maintain traffic signals, signs, and other roadway equipment to keep our streets safe and efficient.
• Assist in fixing damaged or malfunctioning traffic systems in the field.
• Operate heavy equipment, such as trucks and trailers, to support installation projects.
• Work closely with your team to make sure all traffic systems are installed correctly and running smoothly.
• Test, troubleshoot, and fine-tune systems to keep our city's traffic moving safely and efficiently.

Minimum Training & Experience

Minimum Training & Experience (All Levels)

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent recognized certificate.

Traffic Signal Technician I

• Two (2) years of experience performing semi-skilled construction, maintenance, or repair tasks as a helper to a journeyman or as a handyman in at least one major trade.

Traffic Signal Technician II

• Three (3) years of experience in traffic signal construction, maintenance, or repair as a helper to a technician.

Note: An IMSA Level II Traffic Signal Technician certificate may substitute for the required experience.

Traffic Signal Technician III

Either:

• Two years of electronics courses beyond high school (60 semester hours, 90 quarter hours, or 1,800 classroom hours) and two years of technical electronics experience (experience with communications cable and end-user devices may be considered equivalent); or
• Four years of experience in the installation and/or maintenance of electronic traffic control devices.

Necessary Special Requirements (All Levels)

• Possess and maintain a valid Class B State Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Possess and maintain Florida DOT Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic certification.
• Be available to serve on-call and work outside assigned shifts as operational needs require.

Traffic Signal Technician I

• Obtain IMSA Level I Traffic Signal Technician certification within two years of hire.
• Valid Class E State driver's license at hire; obtain Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) within three months.
• Obtain Class B CDL with endorsements within nine months.
• Register with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Attend internal training and pass examinations within 24 months if hired after 08-14-2021.

Traffic Signal Technician II

• IMSA Level II Traffic Signal Technician certificate is recommended if not substituting for experience.

Traffic Signal Technician III

• Must possess IMSA Level II Traffic Signal Technician certification at hire.

Salary Range

$16.1262 to $58.7999/hourly.

Additional Information

• This position works an alternate work schedule of four (4) 10-hour workdays.
