What you will do for Harris County Precinct 4 (HCP4)

Harris County Precinct 4 is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to lead the planning and execution of trail construction and anchor park development projects along designated greenways. This role involves the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment for land clearing, grading, excavation, and asphalt installation.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are illustrative of the types of work performed. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed:

Project Planning and Execution

  • Collaborate with the Operations Project Manager and Superintendent to define project scope.

  • Estimate required resources, including time, equipment, and materials.

  • Develop detailed project schedules to allocate resources efficiently.

  • Monitor project progress and adjust timelines or resources as needed to ensure successful completion.

  • Conduct regular quality reviews with project teams to ensure work meets established standards.

Heavy Equipment Operation

  • Safely and proficiently operate a range of heavy equipment including (but not limited to): dozers, compactors, excavators, loaders, graders, asphalt laying machines, rollers, tractors, and forestry mowers.

  • Prepare and clear land in accordance with grading and site plans; interpret grade stakes and operate in medium-to-fine grade conditions.

  • Level and excavate land surfaces using appropriate machinery.

Site Work and Material Handling

  • Load and transport dirt, debris, and other materials from job sites using tandem dump trucks and trailers.

  • Operate small engine and specialty equipment such as chainsaws, ATVs, cement mixers, and jackhammers.

Emergency Response

  • May be required to work before, during, or after an emergency or disaster, as determined by departmental needs.

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience operating heavy equipment

  • Verified experience working with asphalt.

Licensure:

  • Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints is strongly preferred.

  • Proficient in operating a variety of construction and maintenance equipment.

  • Ability to safely drive a truck with a trailer.

  • Solid understanding of general construction and handyman trades.

  • Strong observation and problem-solving skills.

  • Flexible and adaptable to changing work environments and tasks.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Well-organized with attention to detail. Demonstrates honesty, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
