Job Summary:
The purpose of the Trailer Mechanic Helper is to be responsible for testing, services and repairs trailers and related mechanical components.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs to brakes, tires, wiring, air system, suspension, and trailer body including doors, tires, lighting system, etc.
- Prepare accurate and detailed DOT forms and all other forms of documentation.
- Operate trailers in and out of shop using a yard jockey before and after repairs.
- Clean and maintain work area on a daily basis.
- Maintain a high productivity level.
- Check vehicle fluids including transmission, oil, windshield wiper, antifreeze, etc.
- Manage accurate inventory data.
- Willing to work outside and offsite when needed.
Performance Expectations (if applicable):
- Ability to lift up to 65 lbs.
- Reaching is required approximately 50 times per shift.
- Stooping is required approximately 100 times per shift for approximately 10 second intervals.
- Ability to read and write.
- Must provide own hand tools adequate to perform job functions.
- Must be safety-conscious with a safe work record and responsible to use all PPE as required.
Experience/Education Requirements:
- DOT and Brake certifications preferred for Trailer Mechanic Helper.
- Certified to perform annual inspections, preventative maintenance, and brake inspections on trailers preferred.
- 2 years of experience or extensive knowledge of trailer/tank repairs preferred.
- Must pass DOT Physical.
- Valid drivers license.
- Basic welding skills.
- Basic computer skills.
Other Requirements:
- Overtime is required on occasion.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- All accidents must be reported immediately.
