WELCOME TO YOUR CENTER!Established as a community nonprofit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities to the betterment of our entire San Diego region. Our vision is to create a Center and Center culture where every person feels and knows that they are welcomed, valued, and supported. As the beacon for our regional LGBTQ community, we actively recommit to being a more vibrant, bold, innovative, safe, and modern Center each day than the day before. The Center is sex-positive and provides advocacy and critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life, focusing on our deeply held values of Dignity, Inclusion, Compassion, Respect, and Equity & Equality. The Center currently has over 100 staff working across seven sites in San Diego County. POSITION SUMMARYThis is an exciting opportunity to lead the next phase of growth for The Center's well-established Training Institute (TI), expanding its reach and impact across San Diego County in alignment with The Center's mission. The Training and Community Education Manager (TCEM) oversees the TI and supervises the department's 1-3 staff, developing and delivering research-informed training for Center staff and community organizations and, in coordination with the People and Culture department, re-implementing the Leadership Academy for Center staff. The TCEM is accountable for growing TI revenue to a minimum of $25,000 within the first 12 months, including collaborating with the Development Department to reach corporations and businesses that may not yet know about the TI. The TCEM builds on a strong foundation, including about 30 existing trainings to update and expand and a communications and marketing department that partners on outreach. PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Curriculum Development and Training DeliveryUpdate and expand the Training Institute's existing library of about 30 trainings, review all curriculum materials annually and drawing on current best practices, research-informed approaches, and staff, community, and client needsInternal (Center Staff)Create and implement new curriculum for Center staff based on emerging needs, requests, and research-informed best practicesDesign and implement an annual training plan for Center staffDeliver training to Center staffCollaborate across all departments to co-create training and programming, and co-facilitate training as neededServe as an in-house consultant to staff who are providing training, through coaching, consultation, and content reviewIn coordination with the People and Culture department, oversee the re-implementation of The Center's Leadership Academy, a staff development program that offers workshops and learning opportunities to employees at every level and reflects The Center's commitment to being a "center of many leaders," by identifying skills development needs and developing new workshop topics and curriculum through an organizational development lensPlan and schedule Leadership Academy workshops, select facilitators from within and outside The Center, and co-facilitate as appropriateCollaborate with the People and Culture department and Center leadership to communicate Leadership Academy opportunities to Center staffCollaborate with the grants department to ensure that grants for the Training Institute include up-to-date information and innovative practicesContinually investigate and introduce innovative improvement measures and research-informed best practices based on current literature and trends for training and community education servicesDesign research-informed training and use outcome data to build an evidence base and support publication of findings in scholarly journalsExternal (Community Organizations and Partners)Create and implement new curriculum for community organizations based on emerging needs, requests, and research-informed best practicesDeliver training to community organizations, both in person across San Diego County and virtuallyDevelop curriculum that other LGBTQ+ organizations will find valuable for training their own staff and communitiesCreate a Train the Trainer program, packaging the materials and guidance organizations need to purchase or receive curriculum for independent useBuild relationships with LGBTQ+ organizations in other regions to share or sell Training Institute curriculum, strengthening The Center's reputation as a recognized training providerRevenue Growth and PartnershipsRevenue GrowthBe accountable for growing Training Institute revenue to a minimum of $25,000 within the first 12 monthsExplore new revenue streams for the Training InstituteManage paid training engagements, scheduling, and the collection of revenueReport progress toward the revenue target to the Senior Director of Community Programs on a regular basisPartnershipsPartner with The Center's communications and marketing department on outreach and promotion of Training Institute offerings, including reviewing the Training Institute page on The Center's website each quarter and providing feedback to keep its offerings, descriptions, and contact information accurate, current, and appealing to prospective organizationsCreate and oversee the Training Institute's social media content to promote offerings and reach new audiencesIn collaboration with the Development Department, conduct outreach beyond current partner organizations to corporations and businesses that may not yet know about the Training Institute, engaging them in paid training opportunitiesPrepare and maintain training agreements with partner organizations, corporations, and businesses, and track invoices and payments in coordination with accountingDevelop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including funders, community organizations, and training partnersRepresent The Center at meetings with program stakeholders, funders, community organizations, or community members, ensuring that The Center's mission, values, and professional standards are consistently and positively reflected in all interactionsLeadership and Staff SupervisionOversee the Training Institute (TI), set goals, and supervise the department's 1-3 staffMentor and support Training Institute staff in reaching their personal and professional goals, modeling The Center's core values of dignity, inclusion, compassion, respect, equity, and equalityLead the hiring process for Training Institute positions as necessaryDevelop training and work plans for new staff and ensure a thorough, smooth onboarding into their role at The CenterOversee job performance and the achievement of well-defined goals from work plans, navigate complex problem-solving, and address any program and staff-related issuesHold weekly strategy-focused check-in meetings with direct reports that address program direction, challenges, and growth, offering guidance where needed; direct reports provide a brief summary of completed tasks and progress on work plans and deliverables on the check-in sheet, which also documents priorities to inform annual performance evaluationsConduct annual performance evaluations of staff under this position's line of supervisionShare relevant non-confidential department updates with Training Institute staff as a team development toolMaintain appropriate professional boundaries with direct reports and staff throughout the organizationEvaluation, Data, and ReportingRegularly monitor and evaluate Training Institute operations for effectiveness and efficiencyDevelop and maintain a tracking system to monitor training participation, outcomes, and revenue, and report on Training Institute activities to inform grant reporting and program improvementsCollaborate with the Quality Assurance department to ensure data collection, monitoring, and reporting are timely and accurateWork with the Senior Director of Community Programs to create and track key performance indicators for the Leadership Academy, and prepare internal reports on its outcomesWork with the grants department to use outcome data to help secure funding for the Academy and prepare funder reportsIn collaboration with the Senior Director of Quality Assurance, analyze training feedback data to inform curriculum updates and content developmentDevelop, maintain, and implement the Training Institute's operations manual, ensuring all training-related processes, procedures, workflows, standards, and documentation remain current, accurate, and aligned with organizational policies and operational best practicesReview and update all Training Institute-related policies and procedures annuallyGrants, Budget, and Program AdministrationOversee all work related to Training Institute grants, ensuring deliverables and reporting requirements are metWork with the Senior Director of Community Programs to provide input on the Training Institute budget, review budget-to-actual spreadsheets monthly, and recommend spending and budget revisions to ensure contracts are spent according to grant and contract guidelinesCollaborate regularly with program leaders, accounting, contracts, and compliance teams to ensure alignment with the fiscal aspects of the department's servicesEnsure Training Institute deliverables are met on schedulePerform special projects as assigned Required Qualifications:Education/Experience: 3-5 years of experience designing and facilitating training for adult learners, in person and virtually, including curriculum development; experience designing or delivering training on LGBTQ+ cultural competency, health equity, or related topics for professional or community audiences; experience building client relationships or partnerships and meeting revenue or enrollment goals; managerial and budget management experience.Professional Skills: Knowledge of current issues and trends related to the LGBTQ+ community and other historically marginalized communities; strong writing skills; strong critical thinking, verbal communication, active listening, empathy, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills; strong organizational and record-keeping skills.Technology Skills: MS Office Suite.Language Skills: Fluency in English.Transportation: Reliable transportation and current auto insurance, with the ability to travel to trainings across San Diego County. preferred QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience: Experience overseeing grant-funded programs and department budgets; experience training corporate, business, or professional audiences; experience with virtual training platforms; formal training in instructional design or adult education, or equivalent experience; professional experience working with or serving LGBTQ+ communities; experience with research, evaluation, or scholarly publication.Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Compensation: The pay range for this position is $ 70,304 - $72,000 per year and is commensurate with experience.
