Major Duties and Responsibilities

This position performs 70 % administrative and 30% technical duties in support of the technical training and instructional development functions of the government.

  • This position reports to the Training Development Manager or designee and works under general supervision.
  • Assist with creating training schedules for the organization, track and create reports on outcomes of all training, and maintain training records.
  • Assist with creating training schedules for the organization, develop and analyze training metrics to measure program effectiveness and completion rates. Use LMS data to audit compliance rates and flag non-completion to department heads.
  • Assist with training employees on performance reviews and use the best training methods for a specific purpose or audience.
  • Gather and evaluate information from employees and management on previous training to identify weaknesses and areas that need additional training.
  • Attend seminars and meetings to learn new training methods and techniques, and use the knowledge to prepare and coordinate future training sessions.
  • Support and inform on updates of available features to the NeoGov LMS Administrator.
  • Market company training opportunities to employees and provide information on benefits to encourage participation.
  • Inform employees of scheduled training and track their progress.
  • Recommend training materials and methods, order and maintain in-house training equipment and facilities, and manage the budget set for training.
  • Coordinate virtual and in-person training sessions and meetings that relate to training.
  • Conduct general bookkeeping, credit card reconciliations, invoicing, and generate monthly financial reports.
  • Manage phone calls and correspondence (e-mail, letters, packages, etc.).
  • Track inventory of office supplies and place orders when necessary.
  • Assist with tracking all annual in-service training for current employees on at least a monthly basis (Performance review and Prevention of Harassment).
  • Assist with Training and development classes at the request of leadership, with the assistance of the appropriate department to meet the needs of the facility.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining employee training information for the Leadership Development Program and ensure training records are filed properly and in a timely manner.
  • Assist in managing and coordinating all Learning Center activities, including scheduling training courses, reserving rooms for meetings, working with outside agencies, and corresponding with departments.
  • Ensure training compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate training activities with specific government departments, including Police, Fire, Public Works, and others, recognizing their distinct training needs and requirements.
  • Collaborate with leadership and subject matter experts across all city departments to identify training needs and deliver effective solutions.
  • Works on a team to produce programs that are satisfactory to all relevant parties and the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Microsoft Office Specialist certification is preferred but not required; demonstrated advanced skills may be assessed during the interview process.

Minimum Educational and Training Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field is required. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, having had a similar position for one to two years.

Retirement Plan

The Columbus Consolidated Government offers a defined benefit retirement plan to eligible employees who work in General Government and in Public Safety. Employees in the pension plan must meet both age and years of service requirements to qualify for retirement. The current vesting period is ten years, and the current pension contribution rate is 8% of your gross salary.
