The Weapons Mission Services Division's (WMS-DO) Programmatic Training & Mission Services (WMS-3) is seeking a highly skilled Learning Specialist to directly support development and implementation of formal training and qualification programs in the highly regulated and fast-paced Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP).

The Learning Specialist/Training Coordinator will report directly to the Non-Nuclear/Weapons Quality Team First Line Manager (FLM). The selected individual will perform various dynamic training responsibilities and become an expert in applying the numerous requirements and drivers. The chosen candidate will have the responsibility and accountability to execute important training support deliverables while setting the standards for utmost professional behavior and integrity in the workplace at all times.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintaining training documents, procedures, and records.
  • Researching training issues, identifying root causes, recommending practical solutions, and implementing those solutions in collaboration with their fellow team members and the customer.
  • Performing various administrative functions in conjunction with or in support of operational program compliance, including planning, prioritizing, and scheduling of training activities.
  • Using an LMS (Learning Management System) to implement course registration, course management, credit issuance, and reporting; provide customized reporting and generate metrics that add value to the business needs of the organization served in combination with Excel.
  • Providing customer service support by managing various email mailboxes
  • Implementing, and evaluating compliant and high-quality course materials such as live classroom, on-the-job and/or web-based training for diverse audiences with assistance from other Learning Specialists.
  • Shadowing and assisting Level 2/3 personnel on additional duties, as needed.
While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.

What You Need

  • Education and Experience: Position requires an Associate's Degree in a related field and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

    • Working knowledge of business operations in a structured environment, including familiarity with one or more of the following: formality of operations, compliance practices, configuration management, training and qualification, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Computer Skills/Business Systems:
    • Proficiency with standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe).
    • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to use LANL business systems (e.g., Oracle, UTrain, etc.) simultaneously.
    • Strong ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and complex calendars.
  • Critical Thinking:
    • Ability to research issues, evaluate alternatives, and recommend practical solutions to support operational effectiveness and quality assurance.
  • Communication:
    • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Customer Service:
    • Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service, including the ability to provide clear guidance, manage expectations, and maintain professionalism in high-demand or time-sensitive situations.
  • Special Skills/Knowledge:
    • Experience working with educational programs, training organizations, or academic institutions.
    • Knowledge of documentation and records management practices, including quality assurance and document control.
    • Familiarity with regulatory or compliance-driven environments.
    • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to new systems, and take initiative.
    • Positive, proactive approach with strong attention to detail.


Qualifications We Desire:

  • Strong Microsoft Excel knowledge, skills, and abilities to extract analysis for the LMS and transform data into user friendly reports focused on metrics.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining administrative procedures or controlled documents in a regulated or operations environment.


Work Location: The work location for this position is on-site with the opportunity to transition into a hybrid schedule with a location in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite and partially offsite within a 2-hour ground commute to LANL's main campus in Los Alamos, New Mexico. This is not a Telework or Remote position. All work locations and schedules are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Work Schedule: This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
