Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 18 months
  • Pay Rate: $16.00 $39.39 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Monday Friday, 8-hour day Flexible 6:00 AM 6:00 PM PST; some meetings during 7:00 AM 4:00 PM PST

Job Summary

Become an Instructional Designer (Training Specialist) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you'll develop innovative learning solutions tailored to the varied needs of our audience, including linemen, engineers, customer service representatives, and others. Our objective is to develop practical experiential learning that immerses participants in tasks reflective of those they will encounter professionally, whether in leadership roles, field positions, or office environments. The ideal candidate will have expertise in instructional design methodologies, proficiency in graphic design tools, and a passion for developing interactive, learner-centered experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops, designs, and ensures the quality of training materials.
  • Utilizes knowledge of training methodologies to plan and facilitate the development of training solutions that drive department or Operating Unit outcomes.
  • Monitors and documents user outcomes, needs assessment, and learning objectives.
  • Supports the implementation of training programs, delivery plans, and documentation of user outcomes. Collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to examine existing software and system training materials, identify gaps, and develop an organized approach to the development of training resources. Contributes to the identification and design of the technical training curriculum, balancing the needs of different functions.
  • Ensures feedback is incorporated into the design, development, or facilitation of future technical training programs, and that training interventions align both learner experience and department/Operating Unit needs.
  • Conducts analyses on program effectiveness, reporting to department or Operating Unit leaders on results. Provides input on documentation of programs, curriculum, and outcome objectives; provides oversight and guidance to less experienced team members.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Required Skills

  • Expert-level proficiency in Adobe InDesign (Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Expert-level proficiency in Articulate Storyline
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft 365
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow design templates and brand/style guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment
  • Strong organizational and file management skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in Learning & Development, education, utilities, or corporate training environments
  • Deep understanding of how adults learn; ability to apply adult learning theory
  • Prior experience as an Instructional Designer or Learning Experience Designer
  • Acumen in graphic design for learning; understanding of how adults consume information visually

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a related field

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Remote position must be willing to pick up equipment from the SCE Tech Bar
