Transit Driver - Full Time

The City of Frankfort is seeking a Transit Driver to join a close knit, to assist with citizen transport with a growing team that is located in a beautiful new facility.

Under general supervision, this position operates a City passenger vehicle following either designated route and time schedule or demand - response ADA routing; ensures safety of passengers at all times; performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Drives City passenger vehicle on designated route and time schedule or demand response ADA routes within City limits to pick up and discharge passengers at designated locations; occasionally transports passengers on special tours.
• Ensures safe operating condition of vehicle; checks engine, tires, fuel, lights, brakes, steering, and condition of seats and floor prior to beginning route; monitors conditions during shift and takes necessary actions.
• Reports maintenance issues to the Fleet Mechanic.
• Immediately reports accidents involving vehicle or passenger to superior and Police Department.
• Ensures that vehicle is kept clean and in sanitary condition.
• Issues and collects tickets and transfers; records number of passengers; prepares and maintains accurate logs and reports number of passengers, activities during shift, etc.
• Observes posted speed limits and all operation laws, regulations, and safety precautions.
• Reports all out of ordinary activities to supervisor for immediate action.
• Reports all complaints/criticisms to supervisor.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Commonwealth of Kentucky Commercial Driver's License preferred with passenger endorsement and air brake endorsement or interest in obtaining this licensure.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

One year experience driving a bus or similar vehicle preferred.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from High School or equivalent.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work involves typically sitting while driving vehicle in all weather conditions; exposed to diesel fumes. Will also involve physical requirements due to the transportation of disabled passengers.

Work Schedule will be Monday through Friday with overtime when needed.
