About the Job

If you like working with your hands, solving problems, and keeping things running, this job's for you. As a Transit Mechanic, you'll work on buses, vans, and service vehicles that keep Athens-Clarke County moving every day. You'll be part of a small, skilled team that takes pride in doing the job right - safely and efficiently.

Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

What You Need

  • A degree or certificate in Automotive or Diesel Technology - and one year of professional or personal automotive experience.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Ability to get your Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement within 9 months of hire (free on the job CDL training).
  • ASE Refrigerant Recovery & Recycling Certification (or able to earn within 6 months).
  • Willing to complete Cummins QuickServe and in-house diagnostic training.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Inspect, repair, and maintain diesel and gasoline engines, brakes, A/C, electrical, and more.
  • Use laptop-based diagnostic software (Cummins, Allison, Wabco, etc.) to find and fix issues.
  • Handle regular maintenance and manufacturer-recommended service.
  • Keep accurate repair records and help keep our fleet road-ready.
  • Take part in a rotating on-call schedule for nights, weekends, or holidays.
