Help Individuals Build Skills for Work and Independent Living
The Arc of Ocean County is seeking a dedicated Employment Readiness Specialist to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they prepare for greater independence, community participation, and employment opportunities.
In this role, you'll provide hands-on guidance, coaching, and instruction in both classroom-style and community-based environments. You'll help participants strengthen workplace skills, explore career interests, develop confidence, and achieve meaningful personal goals.

Position Responsibilities
Provide Individualized Instruction and Coaching
- Deliver training focused on workplace readiness, communication, social skills, problem-solving, and daily living competencies
- Lead structured activities that promote personal growth, independence, and vocational development
- Modify teaching approaches to accommodate varying learning styles, strengths, and support needs
- Encourage self-confidence, self-determination, and personal responsibility
Facilitate Community-Based Experiences
- Support participants during volunteer assignments, career exploration activities, and other community engagement opportunities
- Assist individuals in developing appropriate workplace behaviors and interpersonal skills in real-world settings
- Establish and maintain productive relationships with local businesses, employers, and community partners
- Transport participants safely to and from program locations using agency vehicles
Monitor Progress and Maintain Documentation
- Assist participants in working toward goals outlined in their Individual Service Plans (ISPs)
- Attend planning meetings and contribute updates regarding participant growth and achievements
- Complete required documentation accurately and on time, including daily service notes, medication records, progress reports, and incident documentation
- Implement behavior support strategies and respond appropriately to challenging situations when necessary
Promote Health, Safety, and Quality Services
- Administer medications in accordance with agency policies and state regulations
- Follow individual support plans related to health, nutrition, adaptive equipment, and behavioral needs
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment that supports participant dignity and well-being
- Ensure compliance with all agency procedures and program standards

Requirements
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, Rehabilitation Services, or a related field
- Valid New Jersey driver's license with a satisfactory driving record (5 points or fewer)
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Comfortable interacting with employers, community organizations, and external partners
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds or more as needed
- Ability to assist individuals with mobility-related needs when required
- Ability to travel regularly throughout the community and participate in off-site programming
