Advertised Job Summary

The Office of Research is seeking to hire a Translational Imaging Center Core Director to join our team.

The Core Director of the Translational Imaging Center (TIC) at the University of South Carolina is a pivotal role responsible for the daily management, strategic development, and operational excellence of the core facility. This position provides scientific leadership in collaboration with the Scientific Director, consulting with researchers on projects, and overseeing and performing various neuroimaging-related projects. Responsibilities also include managing daily lab operations, supervising staff and trainees, overseeing MRI data collection and analysis, and ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

• Requires a master's degree in area of research specialty.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in neuroscience, psychology, or a related field.
• Expertise in MRI-based neuroimaging, research design, and lab management. Strong record of scientific writing, grant preparation and use of data collection tools.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Knowledge of MRI safety standards, screening procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Skills in research design, experimental methods, and statistical principles.
• Knowledge with laboratory administration and operational management practices.
• Ability to oversee MRI research operations while ensuring participant safety and regulatory compliance.

Strategic Development

• Collaborate with the Scientific Director to define and implement the core's strategic vision and development plans.
• Identify emerging trends in neuroimaging technologies and integrate them into the core's service offerings.
• Collaborate with the Scientific Director and Advisory Committee to develop and execute long-term goals for the core to enhance its capabilities and reputation.

Daily Operations

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Translational Imaging Center to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
• Manage scheduling, workflow, and resource allocation for the core's projects.
• Ensure compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB), HIPAA, FDA, radiation safety, biosafety, and other regulatory requirements as applicable.
• Ensure compliance with all university policies, safety regulations, federal and state regulations, and standard operating procedures.

Scientific Consultation

• Collaborate the design, planning, and execution of neuroimaging experiments.
• Offer technical advice and troubleshoot problems to ensure project success.

Project Management

• Oversee implementation and monitoring of imaging protocols to ensure adherence to approved research procedures, study-specific requirements, and quality standards.
• Coordinate with other departments and external collaborators as necessary.
• Develop data collection tools.

Instrument Maintenance

• Oversee service contracts and coordinate with vendors for repairs and maintenance.
• Implement and monitor regular maintenance schedules for all equipment.

• Assist in the preparation of scientific reports, publications, and presentations.
• Support the development of grant proposals and letters of support to secure funding.
• Contribute to the core's documentation and record-keeping to ensure transparency and accountability.
